A ceremony honoring leading contributors to science and higher education took place in Almaty, where officials presented medals, special prizes, research scholarships and diplomas to the winners of the national competitions “Best Researcher” and “Best University Teacher.” Kazakhstan’s minister of science and higher education, Sayasat Nurbek, National Academy of Sciences President Akhylbek Kurishbayev, and Vice Minister Gulzat Kobenova conferred the awards.
Researchers from Nazarbayev University also received state prizes named after Sh. Ualikhanov and D. Kunayev in recognition of their contributions to scientific advancement. The honors went to Dina Sharipova, associate professor at the Graduate School of Public Policy, and Zhanat Kappassov, associate professor at the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences.
The government awarded state research scholarships for talented young scientists to Almagul Mentbayeva, associate professor at the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences; Azamat Yeshmukhametov, a postdoctoral researcher at the same school; and Berikbol Dukeyev, a postdoctoral scholar at the School of Sciences and Humanities. Additional recipients included National Laboratory Astana researchers Sholpan Askarova, Olzat Toktarbayuly, Aliya Mukanova and Munziya Abutalip.
Eight more NU researchers received the national “Best Researcher” award. The group included Aishuak Konarov, associate professor at the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences; Ardak Kashkynbayev, associate professor at the School of Sciences and Humanities; and Alexander Arbuz, research fellow at the Office of Core Facilities and High-Performance Computing. National Laboratory Astana senior researchers Ayaulym Belgibayeva, Batukhan Tatykayev, Bauyrzhan Umbayev, Dauren Yerezhepov and Olzat Toktarbayuly also earned the distinction.
The university community congratulated the awardees on their recognition, thanking them for advancing science in Kazakhstan and wishing them continued research achievements.
