Health, Well-being and Accessibility

General Information

Our approach

At Nazarbayev University, personal success is viewed as broader than academic and professional achievement alone. The ability to study effectively, work productively, grow and realize one’s potential is closely connected to physical health, emotional well-being, a sense of safety, and access to appropriate support.

For this reason, health and well-being are an important part of the NU environment. The University works to create conditions that support the health, safety and well-being of its community through accessible medical care, prevention and health promotion, psychological support, opportunities for physical activity, and an inclusive and accessible campus environment.

NU’s approach goes beyond responding to health concerns when they arise. It places emphasis on prevention, early identification of risks, healthy lifestyles, access to appropriate support, and creating an environment in which caring for one’s health and well-being becomes part of everyday University life.

Health and well-being at NU are supported through collaboration between relevant University units, healthcare providers and external partners, with the Health and Well-being Department coordinating a number of key areas.

The main areas include:

Medical services – providing access to on-campus medical care, coordinating healthcare services and referral pathways, and supporting continuity of care when additional medical assistance is required.

Public health and prevention – preventing communicable and non-communicable diseases, supporting the sanitary and epidemiological well-being of the campus, organizing vaccination, medical examinations and screening programs, promoting health awareness, and identifying health risks at an early stage.

Psychological well-being – providing access to psychological support, promoting mental health awareness, strengthening prevention and early intervention, and supporting appropriate referral pathways when specialized care is required.

Healthy lifestyle and physical activity – creating opportunities for regular physical activity, encouraging responsible health behavior, and supporting the development of sustainable healthy habits.

Accessibility and inclusion – developing an accessible and barrier-free environment, assessing campus accessibility, and supporting conditions that enable people with disabilities and different needs to participate fully in University life.

Together, these areas contribute to a broader University environment in which health and well-being support learning, work, personal development and meaningful participation in the NU community.
