A Dream Come True: From a Village to Nazarbayev University

“I love absolutely everything here! When I finish school, I will definitely apply to study at Nazarbayev University.” — Sabyrzhan Anuaruly from Mangystau Region.

This summer at Nazarbayev University is truly special. Its spacious lecture halls, dormitories, and sports facilities have come alive with the laughter and energy of children. The university is hosting a series of summer camps where children from all over Kazakhstan are not just relaxing, but growing, exploring new interests, and being inspired by the atmosphere of Central Asia’s leading university.

In 2025, seven children’s camps are operating on NU’s campus, welcoming participants aged 8 to 14. Most of the children come from the western regions of the country, including Zhanaozen and small villages in the Mangystau Region.

“This is part of our social responsibility. We understand that children from cities always have opportunities to visit the university, walk around the campus, and experience its atmosphere. But rural children often don’t. That’s why we wanted to bring them closer to their dreams — not just to show them the university, but to let them experience it from the inside: to live here, to study, and to be inspired. We believe this experience will help them believe in themselves and one day return here as students,” said NU Vice President Assel Uvaliyeva.

The camp program is carefully balanced between recreation and personal development. Each day, children take part in creative workshops in singing, dombra, and acting, as well as educational sessions in languages and a variety of sports activities. A key focus is placed not only on gaining knowledge, but also on developing soft skills such as confidence, teamwork, and personal growth.

“NU is not only the country’s leading university, but also a safe, modern space that’s ideal for children’s camps. Being here has a powerful motivational effect — many children’s eyes light up when they realize they are in the same place where the best students in Kazakhstan study. It inspires them to dream big and aim higher,” say the organizers.

Many of the campers come through the support of sponsors, social programs, and charitable initiatives.

“I love everything about this place! Especially the swimming pool — it’s so big you can swim really far. I’ve made new friends from all over the country. We even put on a play about Kazakhstan — it was so cool! NU is huge and beautiful. It’s easy to get lost here, but all the staff and counselors are super helpful. And the food here is amazing. When I finish school, I will definitely study here,” shared Sabyrzhan from Zhanaozen.
