NU hosted a job fair to employ graduates and help students apply for professional practice and internships on March 10, 2023. The fair was divided by fields of activity, the largest of which were: engineering, IT sector, education, health care, consulting, oil and gas industry, and geology, represented by seven companies.
About 60 employers representing local and international organizations, quasi-public and the private sector, such as Kazakhmys Holding LLP, State Corporation “Government for Citizens”, Business and Technology Services LLP, Kazakhstan Paramount Engineering LLP, Kazakhstan Aselsan Engineering LLP, Kazphosphate LLP and others participated this activity.
Ongarbay Zhantore, representative of the “SLB” (Schlumberger), who graduated with an MBA from NU and is now the company’s ambassador, expressed a major oilfield services company’s great interest in NU graduates:
“NU students are very strong, we also have KBTU and Satpayev graduates, but NU is leading in ratings. They have developed technical thinking, have achievements in different areas, and participate in competitions such as “PetroBowl”. At the interview, students amazed us with their knowledge. We are interested in students of engineering specialties, but today mathematicians approached us too- we are also interested in them because we need people with a technical mindset.
Many employers offer student internships, which can lead to a job offer within the company. Candidates with knowledge and skills in Data Science and Machine Learning were in high demand, especially from IT companies.
“If you look at our left booklets, more than 100 students visited us. KAP Technology, as a subsidiary of Kazatomprom, specializes in the operation of IT. There are areas for development, for example, on the corporate portal and internal development. We are interested in Data Science specialists and intend to conduct internships at Kazatomprom directly. We have noticed that most of the NU students who came up to us are studying Data Science and Machine learning – namely, exploitation. On the administrative part, we have not seen students yet. They probably have lectures. The students, especially NU, are quite open, ambitious, and proactive in implementing some projects in our company,” shared Bakhytzhan Imazhanov, Deputy General Director for Production at LLP “KAP Technology” – IT integrator of the JSC «NAC «Kazatomprom».
The job fair was last held at NU in April 2015. In eight years, this is the first large-scale event attended by more than 700 students. They had the opportunity to leave their resumes and ask questions, get information about jobs, internships, and internships.
“Our students have a big advantage in learning something new quickly. And quick learning and adaptability are very much appreciated by employers. Because NU students learn to find the necessary information independently from the first year, they can find information, quote it correctly, follow the principles of academic honesty, and achieve good results, ” said Tleukenova Liliya, General Manager of NU Career and Guidance Center.
The NU Career Fair will become an annual event, with plans to publish current internships and job openings on the University’s career platform.
