Financial aid & Scholarships

To complete the financial support application, the applicant must click the “Submit Financial Support Application” button. After submitting an application, changes to the application form and uploaded documents can not be made. The Admissions Office will review the application and send a notification to the applicant’s email informing the applicant of the documents that need to be corrected and the deadline for their correction, if necessary. Incomplete or incorrectly submitted applications (uncorrected ones) will not be considered.

Important: Applicants are recommended to check the Spam folder, as a notification from the University may end up there. 

Complete the financial support application form at admissions.nu.edu.kz  in the Admission Results section. Applicant must select one of the following categories under which the financial support application will be considered:

  • NUET Applicants*
  • SAT/ACT Applicants
  • Winners of International and/or Republican Subject Olympiads
  • IB Diploma Holders
  • A-Level/NIS Grade 12 Certificate Holders
  • NUFYP Students

Application for financial support is considered if the applicant meets the minimum requirements for the selected category. If the established requirements are not met, the application will not be considered.

*When selecting the NUET category, the applicant must choose a test city and pay the NUET fee.

Important: Applications without NUET fee payment will not be processed, and the applicant will not be allowed to take the test.

Depending on the category selected, the applicant must upload documents confirming the results. For the NUET category, uploading documents is not required.

Admission Requirements

The following requirements apply for enrollment in NU’s Foundation program

NUFYP (Nazarbayev University Foundation Year Program) – a one-year intensive preparatory program for admission to the University’s Undergraduate Program

Please note that regular admissions is classified as a full tuition-based category, implying fee-paying study

NUET: 120 total score (with a minimum score of 50 in each subject: Mathematics, Critical Thinking and Problem Solving

  • NUET (NU Entrance Test) – test that evaluates academic training for studying at the University.
  • NUET is held in two subject sections – Mathematics and Critical Thinking & Problem Solving.
  • Total number of questions – 60.
  • NUET Fee – 7,000 KZT.
  • Test content – multiple-choice questions.
  • Test duration – 120 minutes. Minimum passing score to be eligible for a state grant – 120 in total for two subjects, while the minimum passing score for each of the subjects is 50. For example, 50 + 70 = 120 – is a minimum passing score in total.
  • To take the entry exam, an applicant must have an original of a passport or a national identity card that was uploaded to the Personal account;
  • The number of test questions, the procedure, and the duration of the entrance examination may be subject to change at the discretion of the Test Administrator. 
  • Information about access to the entry examination is placed in the applicant’s Personal account.
  • Applicant will be informed about the examination date and venue, information on format, as well as required documents and test regulations during the examination via email approximately five days prior to the exams.
  • The examination schedule is published in the “Important dates” section.
  • In the event of a violation of the rules or conditions of the test, the applicant’s test results will be cancelled. In this case, the applicant’s financial support application will not be considered. 
  • Disqualified applicants will not be able to enroll at NU until a certain deadline.
  • Test results are available in approximately six weeks in a Personal account.
  • There is no appeal procedure.

The following requirements are required to enroll in NU’s undergraduate programs

The undergraduate program is a four-year higher education program leading to an academic bachelor’s degree.

Republic Olympiad: Gold and silver medals (I, II place) for the last year

 

International Olympiad: Gold, silver and bronze medals (I, II, III place) for the last three years.

The results must be submitted before the application deadline. 

  • An interview is required.
  • IELTS/TOEFL scores are required, but there is no minimum score.

4, 4, 5  for 3 subjects of HL

  • Only final A-level/NIS Grade 12 Certificates are considered.
  • Final Certificates issued in 2025 and 2026 are accepted for admission to the 2027–2028 academic year.  
  • A-level/NIS Grade 12 Certificate holders also may apply under  one of the following categories: “SAT/ACT applicants” or “NUET applicants” or “Winners of International or/and Republican Subject Olympiads” (see the minimum requirements for these categories on the website).

A-level/NIS 12 Grade Certificate results:

not less than ABB for any three subjects

 

To be eligible to take NUET exam, the following requirements must be met:

  1. Submit an application for admission and provide IELTS/TOEFL test results that meet the minimum requirements:
  • NUFYP: overall score — 5.5; writing and reading — no less than 5.5; speaking and listening — no less than 5.0;
  • Undergraduate programs: overall score — 6.0; writing — no less than 6.0; reading, speaking, and listening — no less than 5.5;
  • Or submit equivalent TOEFL results.
  1. Receive an offer to the University under the regular admission.
  2. Apply for financial support by selecting the “NUET Applicants” category in the application form and paying the NUET fee on the admissions.nu.edu.kz  portal within the established deadline.
  3. Check the email regularly so that important messages and further instructions from the Admissions Office are not missed .

Cost of living

The average monthly cost of attendance at Nazarbayev University is approximately USD 400, depending on the student’s lifestyle and personal spending habits. This estimate covers essential living expenses while studying on campus.
Accommodation is guaranteed for international students.
Estimated monthly expenses (USD):

FAQ

NUFYP (Nazarbayev University Foundation Year Program) is a one-year intensive program at the Center for Preparatory Studies of Nazarbayev University. The program provides intensive personal development, study skills, mathematics, and academic-language proficiency preparation for the undergraduate programs of Nazarbayev University. Education in this program is available under the state grant or other forms of funding, as well as on a fee-paying basis. Following the results of study in the Foundation Year Program, students are accepted to Nazarbayev University undergraduate programs.

No, he/she cannot. Only final-year students and graduates of secondary/post-secondary educational organizations can take part in the competition for admission to NUFYP. In other words, to participate in the competition for admission to NUFYP, an applicant must be a student of a final grade/course or have graduated from a school or postsecondary educational organization. In order to confirm their status, applicants provide a verification letter from the school (spravka) or school diploma.

Combining studies is not possible. At the time of enrollment  and study at NU, a student of NUFYP must be a graduate of a secondary/post-secondary educational organization. NUFYP is a full-time program.

The language of instruction at Nazarbayev University is English.

Admission to NUFYP after high school/college is optional. Applicants can enroll directly in the undergraduate program.
