Advanced Sensors Lab and ArcelorMittal Temirtau have commenced joint research, aiming to address significant challenges in the prediction and simulation of methane outbursts in coal mines.
Recently, the top management of ArcelorMittal Temirtau's Coal Department visited the Advanced Sensors Lab at the National Laboratory Astana.
"We are currently confronted with a formidable problem concerning the simulation and prediction of methane outbursts in coal mines. This complex task requires the expertise of researchers, and we are hopeful that our visit today will pave the way for new collaborative research endeavors to address urgent issues related to predicting regions susceptible to methane outbursts and simulating methane cloud diffusion," stated Andrey Belyi, the Technical Director of ArcelorMittal Temirtau JSC's Coal Department.
“The visit of such esteemed representatives from the local industry is a great compliment to our lab and business. We believe that collaborating with industries will expedite the implementation of our research findings, which holds vital significance not only for applied scientists but also for enhancing safety at Karaganda mines," remarked Dr. Baktiyar Soltabayev, the head of the Advanced Sensors Lab at the National Laboratory Astana."
Launched in April 2023, the "Laboratory of Advanced Sensors" within the Center for Energy and Advanced Materials Science at National Laboratory Astana aspires to push the boundaries of gas sensing technologies, patenting innovative developments, and publishing influential papers in top-tier sensing technology journals. With world-class facilities and cutting-edge equipment, the lab is poised to redefine the landscape of sensor technologies and advance global science.
