NU held guests from Peking University

The delegation was led by Dr. Gang Tian, professor and Director of the Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research (BICRM).

The delegation was led by Dr. Gang Tian, professor and Director of the Beijing International Center for Mathematical Research (BICRM). Professor Lei Zhang has a Ph.D. in Mathematics at Penn State University in 2009. Dr. Gang Tian received his MS at Peking University and PhD at Harvard University. The delegates met with NU leadership to discuss and explore potential areas of collaboration in the field of mathematic, computational mathematics and artificial intelligence.

In addition, the guest delegation had a laboratory tour and a meeting with Institute of Smart System and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI) Director at NU. Dr. Gang Tian and professor Lei Zhang as part of their visit – gave a research seminar on topic: «Ricci Flow on Fano Manifolds» and «Construction of solution landscape for complex systems».

Dr. Gang Tian shared an overview of Ricci flow on Fano manifolds, which are simply complex manifolds with positive first Chern class, and some of its applications. In particular, he reported on some recent progress on singularity formation of Ricci flow and Fano manifolds. Professor Lei Zhang introduced a novel concept “Solution Landscape”, which is a pathway map consisting of all stationary points and their connections. Thus, helped to search the defect landscapes of confined nematic liquid crystals, and the other one is to find the transition pathways connecting crystalline and quasicrystalline phases.

The Peking University founded in 1898 and known as the Imperial University of Peking. It is one of the leading Chinese university with 46,113 number of students. The university occupies a leading position in world rankings such as #12 QS World University Ranking and #17 THE World University Ranking. The Peking University has shaped China’s modernization and it continue to pioneer the nation’s developments. Moreover, Peking University is a member and co-founder Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) as NU since 2017.
