NU Community Unites for 15 Years Charity Run
The Nazarbayev University (NU) campus welcomed more than 200 adults and over 10 children who came together to take part in the 15 Years Charity Run, organized by NU’s Department of Health and Wellbeing, the Children’s Development Fund, the NU Runners student club, and the Ministry of Sports and Health of the Student Government.
The event featured three running distances — 1 km, 5 km, and 7 km — allowing participants of all ages and fitness levels to join. NU students, faculty, staff, and friends of the university ran side by side, turning the event into a celebration of unity, health, and generosity.
This year’s Charity Run was dedicated to raising funds in support of the treatment of the younger brother of one NU student, who is currently fighting against a malignant brain glioma. The initiative underscores the NU community’s commitment to standing together in times of need and offering support to its own members.
The run was opened by Dr. Luis Ramon Rojas-Solórzano, Associate Provost for Graduate Studies at NU. In his welcome remarks, he connected the celebration to the 180th anniversary of the Kazakh poet and philosopher Abay Kunanbayev:
“The source of success is unity in search of well-being of society,” he quoted from Abay. “And this is what we are doing today. We are uniting people for a good reason — charity and the well-being of others. In this competition, we all win for the good of those who need our help.”
The Charity Run was held as part of NU’s 15th Anniversary celebrations, highlighting the university’s commitment not only to education and research but also to fostering a culture of social responsibility and care.
All proceeds from the event will be directed to the Children’s Development Fund to support this medical cause and its broader programs for children’s education and development.
