NU Professors Honored with State Awards by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan

Ahead of the Day of Science Workers, a solemn ceremony was held at the Akorda Presidential Palace, where outstanding representatives of the scientific community were presented with state awards.

NU Vice-President Darkhan Bilyalov and Professors Zhumabay Bakenov and Durvudkhan Suragan were recognized for their significant contributions to the development of national science.

Professor Zhumabay Bakenov was awarded the honorary title “Honored Figure in Science and Technology of the Republic of Kazakhstan,” a distinction being presented for the first time. Professor Bakenov is leading the development of a pilot-scale production of cathode precursor materials for lithium-ion batteries using domestically sourced raw materials. His work aims to meet domestic demand and support export to international markets. This initiative holds strategic importance for advancing the production of high-tech materials for lithium-ion batteries in Kazakhstan.

NU Vice-President Darkhan Bilyalov and Professor Durvudkhan Suragan received the “Kurmet” Order. In his address, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev emphasized the importance of the young academic’s scientific work in the field of mathematical physics, which is already finding practical applications in modern cryptographic systems and data protection. The President noted that in the era of digitalization, such achievements are particularly vital and serve as a clear testament to the high potential of Kazakhstani science.

We warmly congratulate our distinguished scholars on this well-deserved recognition and wish them continued success in their academic and scientific endeavors!
