A student of Nazarbayev University, Zhasulan Toleubekov, won second place at the national student project competition “CYCLELAB: Ecology of the Future.” As part of the competition, he presented his educational environmental project, EcoKids.
The competition was organized within the framework of the nationwide environmental campaign “Clean Kazakhstan.”
The EcoKids project is an online platform that aggregates educational environmental content for children. The initiative brings together videos, cartoons, and other digital resources, organizing them by topic and age group. This approach simplifies access to high-quality materials for children, parents, and educational institutions.
According to Zhasulan Toleubekov, the key feature of the project lies in its aggregating function: “The uniqueness of EcoKids is that it serves as an aggregator platform that collects and systematizes existing high-quality environmental content for children. Today, such materials are abundant, but they are scattered and not always presented in a user-friendly format.”
The author emphasizes that the project aims to address the accessibility of environmental education: “If a child understands the value of resources and the importance of environmental stewardship from an early age, it becomes part of their behavior in the future. This is where sustainable development begins,” he noted.
The platform is already available online at: jastyq-korpeshka.vercel.app.
In turn, Saltanat Basembekova, Acting Head of NU’s Office of Sustainable Development, noted that such initiatives contribute to shaping a new generation of sustainability leaders. According to her, students are already proposing solutions with practical relevance and strong potential for scaling.
At Nazarbayev University, supporting student initiatives is part of a systematic effort to promote sustainable development and develop innovative solutions aimed at addressing pressing environmental challenges.
