Nazarbayev University continues to strengthen its cooperation with the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy. The signing of a Memorandum of Cooperation marks another important step in advancing this partnership.
NU President Waqar Ahmad highlighted the University’s strong interest in expanding cooperation with Kazakhstan’s nuclear industry and its commitment to contributing to workforce development and advancing scientific research during a meeting with Almassadam Satkaliyev, Chairman of the Agency of the Republic of Kazakhstan for Atomic Energy. He also spoke about the NU Science & Technology Park, an innovation cluster being developed as a platform for advancing scientific research, technology entrepreneurship, and the commercialization of research and technological developments.
“For us, signing this Memorandum is not merely a formality. It is a testament to our commitment to making a tangible contribution to the future of our country,” said Professor Waqar Ahmad.
Almassadam Satkaliyev highlighted the University’s strong research potential and the prospects for further cooperation. He also noted that NU is already making a significant contribution to the development of Kazakhstan’s nuclear industry. University representatives serve on the Agency’s Scientific and Technical Council and participate in discussions on key issues related to the development of the sector. In addition, NU researchers are members of an expert group of the National Academy of Sciences under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is working to update the national foresight study on nuclear energy.
“Nazarbayev University is my alma mater. I graduated from the joint NU–Duke University Executive MBA programme, which became an important part of my professional journey. I therefore have a special respect for the University and greatly value the opportunity to further develop our cooperation with it,” added Almassadam Satkaliyev.
The Memorandum is aimed at establishing a long-term partnership that will contribute to the development of Kazakhstan’s nuclear industry. Under the agreement, the parties will undertake joint research, scientific and technical, and innovation projects, with a particular focus on nuclear energy, nuclear physics, materials science, energy technologies, and chemical engineering. The cooperation will also encompass workforce development, the design and enhancement of educational programmes, internships and practical training opportunities, professional development for specialists, and the organization of joint scientific and expert events.
