On February 19, 2016 Cornell Law School hosted the Cornell International Law Journal’s Symposium: The Rule of Law in Central Asia. This Symposium was conducted in partnership with NU.
On July 19, 2017, NU hosted a visit of the delegation from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University headed by the President of PolyU, Professor Timothy W. Tong.
It is with great sadness that we announce that our friend and colleague, Professor Elijah Kehinde, Professor of Surgery in the NU School of Medicine, and his wife, Dr Funmi Kehinde, and their two daughters Mojoyin and Grace passed away on July 14. According to the RK Ministry of Internal Affairs Emergency committee, their deaths were the result of a fire in their apartment.
On July 12-13, NU organized the International Scientific and University Conference as part of Future Energy Forum, dedicated to the theme “Climate Change and Reduction of CO2 emissions”. Our speakers – the participants from 4 continents, 7 top-ranking universities and 13 countries – discussed the matters of politics, economics and international measures taken to fight climate change.

On July 8-11, NU in cooperation with Fudan University held 11th Youth Innovation Competition on Global Governance (YICGG-2017) with a topic “Future Energy and Sustainable Infrastructure” that gathered 66 students from 32 countries of the world. Corresponding to Kazakhstan government’s chairing the Shanghai Cooperation Summit, echoing with the theme “Future Energy” of International EXPO-2017, the “One Belt One Road” initiative, and Kazakhstan’s state infrastructural development program “Nurly Zhol”, YICGG picked its topic.
Annual recruitment of students of NU for short-term military training under the Military Technical School of the Ministry of Defense of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of military-patriotic education was held. This year, 69 senior students of NU who received this privilege with a high level of academic achievement, diligent behavior and active participation in student life received a unique opportunity to get a free course of a young soldier.

A bill has been submitted to the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan providing the autonomy for all higher education Institutions with increasing responsibility of the guardian supervisory boards. In many respects this document takes into account the experience of NU.
