We continue our series of interviews with our alumni and their employers. NU graduates who work at KPMG and Kazzinc have already taken part in the project.

The NU Library in partnership with the Association of University Libraries in the Republic of Kazakhstan successfully organized the 9th Eurasian Academic Libraries Conference (EALC) from September 30 – October 2, 2020. The conference was completely virtual and was able to reach more than 200 active participants from 26 countries during the three-day event.

The first virtual ‘NU Datathon’, organized by the DataSci club students, was held at NU. The datathon was a two-day challenge, where participants were solving cases using their data science skills.

We continue a series of interviews with our alumni and their employers. In this interview, we will speak with current employees of “Kazzinc” Ltd, one of the leaders among non-ferrous metal producers.

NU graduates have developed a “smart” test to estimate the probability of COVID-19 infection, which is now available for everyone to take at home. The test is in the form of a survey with questions and possible answers and is based on an Artificial Intelligence technology known as a neural network.

Iconic cultural sites of Kazakhstan have become even more accessible. Internet users are now able to virtually visit the “Astana Opera” Theater and the “Kazakhstan” Central Concert Hall.

On September 25-26, 2020, NU School of Sciences and Humanities held the International Online Conference called “Sacred Geography: Multidisciplinary Approaches to the Study of Time and Space. “The purpose of the conference was to discuss interdisciplinary approaches to religious studies, cultural anthropology, archaeology, and history, as well as to the study of sacred landscapes and religious sites.

An additional scholarship in the amount of 25 000 tenge will be provided to NU students. Last year, members of the “NU Alumni” Association created this scholarship to provide financial help for the School of Sciences and Humanities students.

The Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence at NU (ISSAI) is launching a project on automated recognition of Kazakh speech – the Kazakh Speech Corpus (KSC). Developers expect that this project will help introduce Kazakh language into the global digital world.

NU graduates will help schoolchildren with their studies. “NU Alumni” association is launching the “E-Tutor” project – a social initiative on educational mentoring.
