The Board of Trustees of NU, headed by Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, considered the results of the University’s activities for the past year and plans for the coming period on March 4, 2023. The National Bank Chairman Galymzhan Pirmatov, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Finance Yerulan Zhamaubayev, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Timur Suleimenov, heads of several other government agencies, NU President Shigeo Katsu and other members of the Board of Trustees participated in the meeting.

Dr. Takao Toda, the JICA expert on Official Development Assistance (ODA), and former Vice-President for Human Security and Global Health of Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) delivered a guest lecture at NU, on February 28.

Through the project, UNICEF and NURIS will support the development of and invest in new digital public goods (DPGs) and open-source IT products compliant with the Digital Public Goods Alliance’s (DPGA) global standards as approved by the United Nations Secretary-General. Shigeo Katsu, President of NU, appeared as a distinguished guest at the Kazakh Senate’s School of Analytics, where he gave a lecture titled “Kazakhstan and 2050: Is the Former Strategy Still Relevant?” in Astana on Feb. 25Outstanding economist and policy maker with over 30-year track record of evidence-based policy research and advisory across 50 countries, President Katsu, is the main editor of the Kazakhstan 2050 Strategy and one of the co-authors of the Five Institutional Reforms that Kazakhstan has set forward and committed itself to.

The NU Library officially opened the Japan Book Corner on February 15, 2023. Nippon Foundation kindly presented the books within the Read Project Japan.

On January 27, 2023, NU President Shigeo Katsu, also a chair of the Development Solutions Network in Kazakhstan (SDSN Kazakhstan), officially inaugurated the Karaganda Buketov University as a member of this National Network. Last year, under the umbrella of the global SDSN, which works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society,The Kazakh chapter was approved as a National Network hosted by NU.

Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, held a briefing with the diplomatic corps at NU, where he outlined the state’s vision and strategies for international cooperation in higher education and science. Foreign diplomats from over 50 countries and international organizations attended the meeting in person, and Kazakh ambassadors working abroad could attend the meeting online.
