After almost 13 years of dedicated service, President Katsu has taken the initiative to step down from his position. The university community expresses its deep gratitude to President Katsu for his outstanding leadership and vision, which has transformed NU from a concept into Kazakhstan’s first world-class research university.
It was a full one-day event that included 26 presentations, 6 panels, and a book launch. Presenters came from several Kazakhstani universities (KazGUU, Almaty Management University, Eurasian National University, NU) and from several international universities such as Ada University in Azerbaijan, Albert Ludwig’s University in Freiburg (Germany), Denison University, Indiana University (USA), the University of Nottingham (UK), Ulster University (UK), HSE University in Moscow (Russia), University of San Pablo (Spain), CEU, and the University of Cantabria (Spain).
On May 29, 2023, NU, the International Centre for Higher Education Innovation under the Auspices of UNESCO (UNESCO-ICHEI), and the Southern University of Science and Technology (SUSTech) signed a memorandum of understanding. The UNESCO-ICHEI delegation arrived for the first time on a visit to Central Asia.

In her speech, President Halimah Yacob spoke about the close and mutually beneficial 30-year-long cooperation between Kazakhstan and Singapore. During her lecture, the President of Singapore focused on three main, in her opinion, areas for cooperation between the “Lion City” and the “Great Steppe” – education, gender equality and equal opportunities for all citizens, as well as interreligious dialogue.
NU Asian Universities Alliance (AUA) Presidents’ Forum May 11-13. The forum titled “Shaping Higher Education in a Changing Asia: Creation, Integration and Innovation” gathered together leaders of 15 member countries of the alliance, including leading universities in China, Japan, South Korea, Malaysia, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates.
NU is expanding academic cooperation with leading universities in the world. As part of the Alliance of Asian Universities Forum, which is taking place in the capital, NU signed two cooperation agreements: the Memorandum of Cooperation with the “Universiti Malaya”, and the “Agreement on Student Exchange” with Tsinghua University.
The first factory in Central Asia to produce coronary stents and balloons based on the technopark of NU was opened in Astana. Domestic production will allow local cardio centers to purchase medical devices 30% cheaper than similar imported ones.
AMBA is one of the “triple crown” accreditation organizations for business schools with a prestigious group of only 300 schools that have earned AMBA accreditation. NUGSB is currently in stage 2 of the 3-stage process toward AMBA accreditation.
