This immersive and multifaceted module was carefully crafted to empower academic leaders with the skills needed to excel in research management. Over the course of three days, participants delved into topics such as research policy formulation, strategic alignment, ethical considerations, compliance, international collaboration, postgraduate and doctoral research support, intellectual property commercialization, and even the initiation of startups.

During the visit, Acting President, Provost Dr. Ilesanmi Adesida and Vice Provost for Academic Affairs Loretta O’Donnell took part in a round table, where the participants discussed the beginning of the new academic year at ARU, the launch of the Heriot-Watt University branch, and learned more about both universities.

On Sept. 7, NU played host to a conference dedicated to the 10th anniversary of the global Belt and Road Initiative, as well as the “Golden Age” of interaction between China and Central Asia.

The main goal of this workshop, titled “Sustainability in Natural Resource Management: Exploration, Extraction & Processing, and Supply Chains of Critical Raw Materials” is to facilitate an open exchange of perspectives among stakeholders representing the raw materials industry, the scientific community, and political institutions. At the centre was the discussion about the current situation in the raw materials industry in Kazakhstan and the potential for its further development, with a particular emphasis on its role in advancing the green and digital transformation of the economy.

On September 1, 2023, the UMC Motherhood and Childhood Center celebrated the beginning of the school year for schoolchildren. As part of the event, the UMC Motherhood and Childhood Center received a visit from the Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Labor and Social Protection of the Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Tamara Duisenova, along with the Kazakh Minister of Education, Beisembayev Gani, Kazakh Vice Minister of Health, Dudnik Vyacheslav, acting NU President Ilesanmi Adesida, and Vice President for Medicine and Dean of NU School of Medicine, Massimo Pignatelli.

Distinguished by panel sessions hosted at NU and Astana IT University, the forum convened a diverse assembly, including educators, scientists, representatives from universities and research institutes, Public Council members, students, and both foreign and domestic experts. The grand plenary session, held within NU’s main hall, commenced with a video message from the Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Alikhan Smailov, who expressed his wholehearted support for the pursuit of scientific and academic advancement.

The primary objective of this event was to unite project participants and establish an effective platform for the exchange of experience and knowledge. The first day of the seminar was dedicated to presentations by experts and activists in the field of sustainable development.

The project was developed by the NU Graduate School of Education at the initiative of the Kazakh Ministry of Science and Higher Education. The program, launched in April 2023, aims to build leadership skills and improve university administrations’ competencies in today’s dynamic environment.

Coming to a university for the first time can be scary. Students don’t know each other, don’t know the professors, where are the classrooms, or how to get to the library.
