What does NUFYP mean?
NUFYP (Nazarbayev University Foundation Year Program) is a one-year intensive program at the Center for Preparatory Studies of Nazarbayev University. The program provides intensive personal development, study skills, mathematics, and academic-language proficiency preparation for the undergraduate programs of Nazarbayev University. Education in this program is available under the state grant or other forms of funding, as well as on a fee-paying basis. Following the results of study in the Foundation Year Program, students are accepted to Nazarbayev University undergraduate programs.
Can a 10th-grade student apply to NUFYP?
No, he/she cannot. Only final-year students and graduates of secondary/post-secondary educational organizations can take part in the competition for admission to NUFYP. In other words, to participate in the competition for admission to NUFYP, an applicant must be a student of a final grade/course or have graduated from a school or postsecondary educational organization. In order to confirm their status, applicants provide a verification letter from the school (spravka) or school diploma.
Is it possible to combine studies in high school and NUFYP at Nazarbayev University?
Combining studies is not possible. At the time of enrollment and study at NU, a student of NUFYP must be a graduate of a secondary/post-secondary educational organization. NUFYP is a full-time program.
What is the language of instruction at Nazarbayev University?
The language of instruction at Nazarbayev University is English.
Is it compulsory to enroll in NUFYP?
Admission to NUFYP after high school/college is optional. Applicants can enroll directly in the undergraduate program.
Is it possible to take only one course and study at NUFYP?
There is no such opportunity. Applicants must enroll in the program to study there.
What about those who studied at NUFYP and voluntarily withdrew? Are there any restrictions on applying again?
NUFYP students, who voluntarily withdrew from the university, can take part in the competition only for undergraduate programs.
Is it required to take the Unified National Test (UNT) to apply to Nazarbayev University?
When applying to Nazarbayev University, UNT scores in English are considered only for the regular admission. Minimum requirements are specified in the regular admission section. These requirements are not considered in the competition for financial aid and/or scholarships.
What is the average score of the diploma for admission to Nazarbayev University?
Minimum GPA requirements are listed in the regular admission section. These requirements are not considered in the competition for financial aid and/or scholarships.
What are the stages of NUFYP competition?

The selection process to NUFYP consists of the following stages:

1. Stage I – online application period;

2. Stage II – entrance exam;

3. Stage III – consideration of applicants’ files, who received required scores in stage II and corresponding English test scores;

4. Sending admission offers to applicants in accordance with the ranking, which is compiled based on received scores*;

5. Submission of original documents for enrollment.

*Applicants from the waiting list may receive an admission offer as vacant places become available (due to other applicants’ refusals) until the start of classes.

If an applicant has scored minimum passing scores in the entrance exams, it does not guarantee automatic admission to NUFYP and receiving the grant. An applicant participates in the competition for the award of the state grant according to the number allocated annually by the MSHE of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Quotas for other grants are determined by the university.

What is the sequence of actions for the application process to NUFYP?

To participate in the competition, an applicant should complete the following:

1. Online application at the admissions.nu.edu.kz portal and creation of a personal account;

2. Filling out the application form and submission of the required documents;

3. Paying the application fee and сompletion of the application process by clicking the “PAY AND SUBMIT APPLICATION” button.
The application fee is 10000 tenge (non-refundable). Within the last two weeks of application deadline, including the extension period for the application, the registration fee is increased three times – 30000 tenge.

4. IELTS/TOEFL results submission;

5. Further steps. Applicants must check the email indicated in the application form to receive important information from the Admissions Department and personal account in order to track the application status.

What is the application fee during the application process to NUFYP?
The application fee to NUFYP is 10000 tenge (for those who pay the application fee within the last two weeks before the application deadline and in case of its extension, the application fee increases three times). This amount is non-refundable. The application fee is paid online via the applicant’s personal account. An application fee payment through bank transfer is not acceptable. The application fee is increased 3 times from the established amount when paid within the last two weeks before the first officially-approved deadline and during the extension period for accepting applications for participation in the admission process (30 000 tenge).
What should be done if when creating a personal account on the portal, an incorrect email address was specified and now it is impossible to register again since the site says that no such IIN exists?
Applicants should address such requests to undergraduate_admissions@nu.edu.kz, indicating the problem, IIN (for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and full name for processing the request. After the registration with incorrect data is canceled, an applicant will be returned to his/her initial request about it and should create a new personal account with the correct data.
What should be done if an applicant cannot log in to his/her personal account?
Applicants should address such requests to undergraduate_admissions@nu.edu.kz, indicating the problem, IIN (for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan), full name and screenshots of the error page for resolving it.
What should be done if an applicant forgot a password from his/her personal account?
Applicants should use the “reset password” function on the admissions.nu.edu.kz portal.
What should be done if there are problems with the application fee payment?
It is necessary to check if internet transactions are available for the bank card. If the option is available but the problem is not resolved, an applicant should contact the bank and email undergraduate_admissions@nu.edu.kz, indicating the problem, IIN, full name and screenshots of the error page.
Where is the application form for NUFYP?
Go to the admissions.nu.edu.kz portal, press the “Sign up” button and fill out the required information in English. Applicants need to select an undergraduate program from the list of programs and then select the foundation and undergraduate programs. There you can find and fill out the application form for the foundation and undergraduate programs.
Is it necessary to fill out the application form within one day?
No, the application form can be filled out several times before the deadline for the online application. Each time you enter new data, click “Save”. The form is saved in your account with date/time of last changes. When complete, click “Upload”.
Is there a certain procedure order for filling out the application form, uploading documents, and paying the registration fee?
When creating a personal account, the applicant will have detailed instructions for submitting an application. You can refer to it at any time when filling the form, uploading documents, and paying the application fee.
Are Linguaskill results considered in the competition?
No, Linguaskill results are not considered in the competition.
How to submit IELTS/TOEFL results?

If the score meets the minimum requirements, within the specified time:

  • Order an electronic version of the certificate to be sent to Nazarbayev University directly by the test administrator (British Council, ETS, etc.).

Comment: When registering for IELTS/TOEFL you can indicate NU for electronic delivery (IELTS – “Nazarbayev University”; TOEFL code – “6762”). If not indicated in advance, you can order a paid delivery via the test center.

  • Upload the certificate data and its scan to “Upload IELTS/TOEFL results” in your Personal account. After entering the TRF/Appointment number, other details fill automatically. If not, possible reasons: (1) NU hasn’t received official e-results; (2) mistake in the application; (3) mistake in the certificate.

Important: do not send scans to University email or hard copies by post.

IELTS Indicator, IELTS Online, TOEFL iBT Home Edition and TOEFL PDT results are not considered in the competition.

All provided certificates must be valid by August 1, 2025. Test results submitted before August 1, 2023 will not be accepted.

Is there superscoring for IELTS/TOEFL?
No, superscoring is not used. You may submit multiple certificates before the deadline, but the last uploaded certificate will be considered (previous data will be deleted).
What is the period for providing an additional IELTS/TOEFL certificate?
The period for providing additional IELTS/TOEFL certificates will be available in the “Important dates” section on the website.
Is it possible to prepare and/or pass IELTS, SAT tests at NU?
NU does not provide preparation and organization of these tests. They can be taken at other official test centers in Kazakhstan.
What is NUET?
NUET (Nazarbayev University Entrance Test) is a standardized admission examination developed by NU’s partner, which tests mathematics and critical thinking and problem-solving. Information about NUET is available here.
Can applicants provide SAT results and skip NUET?
SAT is not considered for admission to the NUFYP for citizens of Kazakhstan. International applicants can submit SAT/ACT results to be considered for NUFYP.
Where are the preparation materials for NUET available?
See the NU website and the Center for Preparatory Studies website for NUET preparation materials.
Are there any preparatory courses for NUET at NU?
No. There are no preparatory courses for NUET at NU. Use the materials in the “Useful resources” section and on the CPS website.
How many grants are there for NUFYP?
556 grants were allocated in 2024. The number of state grants is determined by the MSHE of the Republic of Kazakhstan. NU-funded grants depend on University capacity. Grants are distributed by ranking based on entry exam scores.
How to enroll in NUFYP on a fee-paying basis?
Complete the application on the admissions.nu.edu.kz portal. Minimum requirements are listed in the regular admission section.
Should applicants pass IELTS or NUET after completion of NUFYP in order to progress to undergraduate programs?
No. After completing the courses indicated in the curriculum, students take final exams conducted by the Center for Preparatory Studies, and apply on the admissions portal.
What is the cost of a dormitory?

What is a monthly stipend for NUFYP students?
The monthly stipend for NUFYP students is 44,516 tenge.
How to return the guarantee fee after admission offer refusal?
In case of refusal of the admission offer, the guarantee fee is not refundable. The conditions for the guarantee fee return are the fulfillment of all requirements specified in the guarantee fee payment form.
What undergraduate programs (majors) are offered by Nazarbayev University?

Before starting the online application process for undergraduate programs, please have a look at the list of majors offered by Nazarbayev University Schools as the entry requirements depend on the chosen school and category.
What is the sequence of actions for applicants who wish to directly enter undergraduate programs?

To participate in the competition, an applicant should complete the following:

  1. It is very important to select the major and the school of Nazarbayev University as well as an applicant’s category as entry exams you will be taking depend on these factors;
  2. Registering and taking necessary exams (for instance, at testing centers in your city). Sending the electronic results of the exams is required for participation in the competition for undergraduate programs. To send electronic results of standardized tests, an applicant must contact the test administrators (IELTS – British Council/Interpress, TOEFL – ETS, SAT – College Board) and request to send electronic results to Nazarbayev University or choose the university when registering for the test.
  3. Register at admissions.nu.edu.kz and create a personal account;
  4. Pay the application fee (non-refundable). The application fee shall be paid only online in your personal account at the “My application forms” section with a bank card. The payment of the application fee by transferring money through a bank is not acceptable. The application fee for undergraduate programs is 10,000 tenge (the registration fee is tripled for those who apply during the last two weeks before closing and in case of its extension);
  5. Complete the application form and upload all required documents before the deadline. The list of documents is available here in the section “List of documents to be submitted by applicants.” Also, do not forget to click on the “Pay and Submit Application” button.
Is it possible to choose more than one school and/or major when applying?
Yes, an applicant can choose two schools and majors. However, applicants who have indicated the school as the second choice are considered only at the request of the school.
If an applicant is not accepted by his/her first choice of the Nazarbayev University school, will he/she be considered by the second choice?
The decision about considering the second choice of an applicant is taken by the school. The priority is given to an applicant’s first choice of the major.
Is it possible to change the school and major after enrollment?
Yes, it is possible, but only after a year of study and with the official permission of the dean of the school the applicant would like to transfer to.
Is it mandatory to work after completing an undergraduate program? What are the requirements and conditions?

Nazarbayev University, like all educational institutions in Kazakhstan, follows the requirements of the legislation of the Republic of Kazakhstan. In accordance with paragraph 17 of Article 47 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On Education,” citizens of Kazakhstan who received education at the expense of the state grant are required to work for at least three years after completing their studies.

What are applicant categories and why are they important?

The category of an applicant is determined by the educational institution where he/she studies or graduated, or by his/her achievements which will be considered during the application-processing period.

While taking part in the competition for financial aid and/or scholarships for the undergraduate programs, Nazarbayev University considers the following categories:

  • SAT/ACT applicants;
  • A-level/NIS Grade 12 Certificate graduates;
  • IB Diploma Programme graduates;
  • Winners of the International and/or Republican Olympiads;
  • Transfer students (students of other higher-educational institutions);
  • NUET applicants.

Entry requirements for each category are different. Therefore, it is important to select the category that suits you most.

Is it possible to apply through two categories at the same time?
No, it is not. An applicant can choose only one category.
Which category is given a priority? How are the grants allocated between categories?
The grants are not allocated by categories. All applicants are considered equally, regardless of the chosen category. Priority is not given to any of the categories. For instance, high results for the NIS Grade 12 Certificate are evaluated the same as a high score for the SAT, according to the evaluation methodology.
Is it possible for a student to transfer his/her credits from another university?
Yes, it is possible. However, the transfer of credits is identified by the school. The maximum allowed number of transferable credits is 72 ECTS.
Can former undergraduate students who have voluntarily withdrawn or dismissed from Nazarbayev University return and continue their studies at Nazarbayev University?

If students have voluntarily withdrawn for reasons other than disciplinary, two specific conditions apply:

  1. Within five years of leaving the university, former students shall follow the readmission procedures established by the Office of the Registrar. For these former students, all university ECTS credits and grades will be accepted as part of the readmission process;
  2. After five years of expulsion from the university, former students must apply for admission as new students.

Where will the NUET exam take place?
The NUET exam will be held in 18 cities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Is it possible to change an applicant’s category after the application deadline? Is it possible to change the category “NUET applicants” to another category after passing the NUET exam?
Yes, the category can be changed within the deadlines set by the Admissions Office . To change your category, please email undergraduate_admissions@nu.edu.kz from the email address used to register on the application portal, indicating your NU Applicant ID. NUET applicants will receive additional instructions regarding the category change.
Which subjects are given priority while evaluating the NIS Grade 12 Certificate and is it important for the subjects to be related to the chosen major?
The Admissions Committee considers and evaluates all subjects. The priority and relevance of the subjects are considered depending on the chosen school. You can learn about the statistics about the average score of enrolled applicants under the NIS Grade 12 Certificate here.
Suppose an applicant under the NIS Grade 12 Certificate category has A, B, B in three subjects and a C or below in other subjects. Will he/she be considered an eligible applicant who meets the minimum requirements?
Yes, he/she will be considered an eligible applicant since the minimum requirement to take part in the competition is to have at least A, B, B in any three subjects.
Are there any master’s or PhD programs at Nazarbayev University taught in Kazakh or Russian?
No, there aren’t. All master’s and PhD programs are taught in English with the exception of the Executive MBA program which is taught in English but provides simultaneous interpretation into Russian.
Do I have to take any entrance exams or comprehensive tests to apply to graduate programs?

The results of comprehensive testing are not considered for admission to Nazarbayev University.

All programs require an English-language proficiency test (IELTS/TOEFL) if the applicant has not previously studied in English.

In general, for admission to graduate programs, the Admissions Committee of the respective program reviews the applicant’s application package, taking into account all elements of the application:

  • A motivation letter in which you disclose your reasons for applying to a particular major and the implications of that choice for your development;
  • A transcript and grades in subjects relevant to your chosen major;
  • Letters of recommendation that show previous experience and accomplishments;
  • Results of an interview with the Admissions Committee.

Some programs require GRE, GMAT, ALEKS, and work experience in addition to the above. School of Medicine programs have specific exam requirements.

What is the sequence of actions for applicants who wish to enter Graduate programs?
  1. Select a master’s or PhD program. You can simultaneously apply to two master’s and/or PhD programs at a maximum. If an applicant receives an offer from both programs, he/she needs to choose one of them.

  2. Research the entry requirements of programs and prepare all documents for the online application package.

  3. Register online on the portal before due dates for the selected program and upload all necessary documents.

  4. Successfully pass the interview with the Admissions Committee, if invited. Interviews are held in English.

  5. To successfully enroll, you must complete an orientation week and sign a contract with the School you enrolled in.

When can I apply to graduate programs and what are the deadlines?

How is the interview performed? What questions are asked? What do you need to prepare for?

Interviews are conducted online or offline in the English language, lasting 15 minutes or more.

Each Admissions Committee develops its own evaluation methodology. Therefore, the questions may vary depending on the program. In the interview, members of the University Admissions Committee may ask questions to check the following:

  • Your academic skills.
  • Competitiveness.
  • Your priorities.
  • Whether you are able to make a contribution to the University.
  • Potential and motivation.

As you can see, the topics in the interview correspond closely with your motivation letter.

I want to apply for a master’s/doctoral program. Does my chosen program have to match my previous degree?
Your previous degree is not required to match the program you are applying for at Nazarbayev University. However, applicants are expected to outline their high motivation and strong interest in the program in the statement of purpose and in the interview.

If I am currently pursuing an internship under the Bolashak program, but have not received a degree, can I qualify for studying with the grant?
Yes. The state educational grant is awarded to individuals who have not previously obtained a degree of the appropriate level of education in Kazakhstan under the state educational order and/or abroad under the international scholarship “Bolashak.”

Yes, Nazarbayev University offers programs on a fee-paying basis. For more information, please refer to the “Fees and Funding” section.
How to transfer to NU for a master’s/doctoral degree program? Is it possible to transfer from another university?
It is not possible to transfer at the graduate level. However, you can transfer your credits at the discretion of the School you are applying for. You can contact your School of study about this matter.
Can I transfer my credits if I am studying or have already completed my master’s/PhD program?

When will admission decisions be made?
All admissions decision letters will be emailed. The period of sending notifications about admission will be available in the “Important dates” section of master’s and doctoral degree programs.
Are there any master’s programs that I can combine with my full-time work?

There are several programs at Nazarbayev University that you can pursue while working full-time:

  • Master of Science in Educational Leadership (module-based);
  • Master in Public Administration (with classes on weekends);
  • Online Master in Public Administration (with online classes);
  • Master of Business Administration (with online classes on weekdays and offline classes on weekends);
  • Executive Master of Business Administration (with classes on weekends).

All other programs are full-time and do not allow combining with full-time employment.

If I already received a master’s/PhD degree in Kazakhstan under a state scholarship, can I enter NU at the same level?

If you have already received a master’s/PhD degree under the state scholarship, you cannot receive the same degree under the state scholarship again. This applies to “Bolashak” scholarship holders as well. In such cases, if successful in the competition, you can enter on a fee-paying basis or seek sponsorship.

What do I do if there was an error during the application?

In case of problems with submitting an application, please send a request to the emails according to the table below, specifying the IIN (for citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan) and the applicant ID.

Can I apply for several master’s/PhD programs at the same time?
You can simultaneously apply to two master’s and/or PhD programs at a maximum. If an applicant receives an offer to both programs, he/she needs to choose one of them.
How can I check my application status?
Your application status will be displayed in your personal account, under the “Admission Results” section. The final decision will be sent to your registered email after competitive selection.
If I am a final-year student, can I apply without a diploma of higher education?
If you are a final-year student, submit an official current transcript from your university registrar, followed later by the diploma and final transcript.
Is the application (registration) fee refundable if I’m not enrolled?
This amount is non-refundable. Pay the application fee only online in your personal account. Applicants can apply for no more than two master’s/PhD programs; do not pay more than twice.
Is it mandatory to do a notarized translation of documents into English?
If a document already includes the English version, then notarized translation is not needed. Otherwise, notarized English translations are mandatory.
How can I calculate my GPA correctly?
You can calculate your GPA on a 4-point scale using online resources or specify the GPA as indicated in your transcript. In any case, Admissions staff will recalculate it.

To submit an IELTS/TOEFL certificate, you must:

  1. Send official electronic results through the Test Administrator directly to Nazarbayev University;
  2. Enter the certificate number in the “Upload IELTS/TOEFL results” section of your NU account. If details don’t auto-fill, possible errors: not yet received by NU; a mistake in your application; or an error in the certificate;
  3. Upload a scanned copy of the certificate. You may submit multiple, but only the last uploaded will be considered.

IELTS Online, TOEFL iBT Home Edition and TOEFL PDT are not accepted. All certificates must be valid at time of application (validity: two years). Ensure the test center sends results to NU (processing may take 7–10 business days). Late results will not be considered.

Where should I send certificates if I improved my IELTS/TOEFL before the application is closed?
Upload your new certificate in your personal account under “UPLOAD IELTS/TOEFL RESULTS” following the instructions.
May I provide IELTS/TOEFL results after the application deadline?
Deadlines for online application and certificate submission may differ. Upload your certificate by the language certificate deadline listed under “Important dates” for master’s and doctoral programs. Late certificates are not accepted and the application will be rejected.
Is the IELTS One Skill Retake accepted?
Yes, it is accepted. Submit your final test results before the IELTS/TOEFL certificate deadline.
What are the codes for sending IELTS/TOEFL/GRE/GMAT test results?

What type of English language certificates are not accepted?

Is it enough to provide a scanned version of the IELTS/TOEFL certificate?
No. You must order the official electronic results to be sent directly to NU by the test administrator.
What should I do if my certificate is not found in the database when I enter the TRF number?
Check the correctness of all entered data (name, passport details, TRF/appointment number) or contact the test administrator to send the electronic version to NU.
What is the ALEKS test?
The ALEKS test determines the level of basic mathematical skills for business using adaptive questioning to assess what a candidate knows and doesn’t know.
Can I find out more about the ALEKS test format?
You can explore the format and take a practice ALEKS test at www.aleks.com or buy a monthly subscription at aleks.com/buy_aleks_now.
Is the ALEKS test for MBA, MSF and MEM programs fee-paying?

The ALEKS test is included in the application fee. In case of retaking, the cost is 10,000 tenge.

Retaking ALEKS is not possible for the Master of Engineering Management program.

What is the MCAT exam and who is required to take it?

MCAT (Medical College Admission Test) is required for applicants to medical faculties. It assesses problem-solving, critical thinking, and natural/social sciences knowledge.

Format: four sections – Biological/biochemical foundations; Chemical/physical foundations; Psychological/social/biological foundations; Critical analysis and reasoning.

Assessment: scores reported ~30–35 days after the test.

Registration & payment: USD 305–355 depending on timing. Prep materials here.

Where can I take the MCAT exam?
The MCAT can only be taken abroad. Register at aamc.org to choose country/date. Results must reach NU before the Doctor of Medicine deadline.
What is the USMLE exam and who is required to take it?

USMLE is taken for admission to the Residency program (only Step 1).

  • ~350 questions / 7 hours + 45-minute break
  • Average question length 60–70 words

What is an IFOM exam and who is required to take it?

No minimum score requirements for GRE, GMAT, and ALEKS.

ALEKS is taken at NU or online (depending on School). Invitation sent by the Admissions Secretary; choose an approved test date. MEM program has a fixed date approved by the School.

Who can be my referee?
Academic referees (professors, supervisors, teachers, deans) or professional referees (employers, colleagues, partners) who know your work.
What is the procedure for submitting reference letters?

After you click “PAY AND SUBMIT APPLICATION”, a link is sent to referees’ emails to submit letters in two ways:

Option 1: referee uses corporate/institutional email and fills the electronic form via the link.

Option 2: if no corporate email, the letter on organization letterhead (with date/outgoing number) is scanned and uploaded via the link. Referees have seven days.

My referee refused. Can I indicate another referee?
Write to the email shown in the top-right of your application form with the new referee’s name, email, title, organization, and phone. Admissions staff will update your form.
How do I choose a research topic to enter a PhD program?
Visit the respective School’s site, review faculty profiles and research interests, attend open lectures/sessions and open houses to refine your research proposal and topic.
Do you have any requirements for the content of the motivation letter?
There are no strict content requirements. See resources (including open.nu.edu.kz) for tips. Length depends on program (e.g., up to 1 page or 500 words).
How can I confirm my work experience?

If work experience is optional, a CV is sufficient. If mandatory, provide official documents per the Labor Code of Kazakhstan, such as:

  • Employment record;
  • Employment contract with termination mark;
  • Employer acts confirming start/termination;
  • Salary payment statements;
  • Employer-signed records (stamped and notarized);
  • UPSF statements on mandatory pension contributions;
  • State social insurance contributions info;
  • Archived certificate of employment history.
What diploma is necessary to apply for Residency Programs?
A Doctor of Medicine or equivalent highest medical qualification enabling registration/certification to practice independently in the country, from a recognized university per the World Directory of Medical Schools.
Is basic medical education necessary to apply for the Master of Public Health program?
Not mandatory. Applicants should demonstrate strong motivation and interest in the program in the motivation letter.
What is the amount of the monthly stipend for master’s and PhD students?

200,000 KZT – Master’s students

123,122 KZT – Residency students

240,000 KZT – PhD students*

*PhD students may also work as RAs/GTAs with monthly salary starting from $600 depending on the program.

Is the orientation week mandatory to attend?
Yes. Participation in orientation week is mandatory for enrollment.

I studied at NU in a master’s/doctoral program and withdrew. Any restrictions on re-entry?
A withdrawn student can apply only after one year from the expulsion date. For readmission to the same program with recognition of previous NU courses, contact the Office of the Registrar: registrar@nu.edu.kz. Readmission can be considered within five years; those withdrawn from Zero Year of Graduate Programs are not considered for readmission.
Is there any work obligation after completion of master’s/residency/PhD?
Per Kazakhstan law, citizens who studied on a state grant must work at least three years after completing studies. Details: link.
What is the guarantee fee and its amount?
The guarantee fee is a mandatory payment to secure a place in graduate programs. Upon accepting the offer, applicants pay a refundable guarantee fee of 100,000 KZT.
What are the conditions for a refund of the mandatory guarantee fee?

The fee is refunded upon completion of all:

  1. Bilateral signing of the Education Services Agreement;
  2. Participation in orientation week;
  3. Completion of the first semester with good academic standing.

Refund without these conditions is possible in case of the applicant’s/student’s death before the second semester. Refunds are processed in the second semester to University-issued bank cards.

What are the requirements for international candidates to enter the programs of Nazarbayev University?
Admission to Nazarbayev University is merit-based. Thus, the entry requirements for the programs are the same for all candidates, regardless of their citizenship and depend on the program you are applying for.
Are there any scholarships available for international candidates to study at Nazarbayev University?
Nazarbayev University offers the “Abay Kunanbayev” scholarship for international candidates, who successfully go through the selection process and are recommended for admission by the Admissions Committee of the respective program. This scholarship covers the tuition fee, basic medical insurance and the monthly stipend.
Are there any other scholarships available for international candidates if they are not awarded “Abay Kunanbayev” scholarship?
In addition to the “Abay Kunanbayev” scholarship, international candidates who are recommended for admission are also eligible for the partial scholarships of the University based on their citizenship. The citizenship-based scholarships cover from 50 to 90% of the tuition fee.
How can international candidates receive the “Abay Kunanbayev” or citizenship-based scholarships?
In order to be considered for the “Abay Kunanbayev” or the citizenship-based scholarships of the University, international candidates should apply to the program(s) of their interest, go through the selection process and be recommended for admission by the Admissions Committee of the respective program.
If the selection process includes an interview with the Admissions Committee, should I come to Kazakhstan for the interview?
There is no need to come to Kazakhstan just for the interview. Candidates residing outside of Kazakhstan may have an interview via Skype or via other Internet resources. This information will be provided to you by the School representative.
Does the University provide international students with dormitories?
Yes, the University provides international students with rooms in its dormitories on campus.
What is the amount of the monthly stipend for international students?
The monthly stipend is the same for all students of the University regardless of their citizenship.

Foundation: 40,065 tenge.
Undergraduate: 47,135 tenge; Undergraduate (high): 54,205 tenge.
Master’s: 200,000 tenge.
Residency: 123,122 tenge.
PhD: 240,000 tenge.

PhD students can also work as graduate or research assistants with a respective monthly salary.
Are international students allowed to work during their study?
International students are allowed to work on campus up to 10 hours per week with the permission of their Schools.
