On September 26, NU hosted the largest Open House Day in the University’s history – NU Fest: Generation AI – welcoming around 20,000 guests. Prospective students and their parents had the opportunity to explore NU’s academic programs, experience the University from the inside, and learn about the opportunities available to students during their studies and after graduation.
Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sayasat Nurbek and NU Provost Professor Rehan Sadiq welcomed participants at the opening of NU Fest.
This year’s festival was held under the theme Generation AI. Artificial intelligence was one of the central themes running throughout the program, highlighting how emerging technologies are transforming education and future careers across fields ranging from engineering and medicine to business and beyond.
All eight NU schools presented their academic programs. Guests could attend open lectures and trial classes, visit research laboratories, explore projects developed by NU researchers and students, and discover the technologies used in teaching and research.
Throughout the day, prospective students and their parents explored developments in artificial intelligence and robotics, VR technologies and 3D printing, medical simulators, drones, and flight simulators. NU technological projects were also showcased at the Innovation Labs. This hands-on format allowed prospective students not only to learn more about the fields they are interested in, but also to experience first-hand what studying and conducting research at NU can look like.
A separate part of the program focused on opportunities beyond the classroom. Prospective students received guidance on admissions and funding, learned about international programs and career opportunities, and spoke directly with faculty, current students, and alumni. Student clubs introduced guests to life outside the classroom, while a dedicated information session was held for parents.
Over the course of one day, guests were able to experience the journey of an NU student – from choosing an academic program and applying to the University to studying, conducting research, gaining international experience, taking part in student life, and preparing for a future career.
The strong turnout at NU Fest: Generation AI reflects the high level of interest in NU among prospective students. The University continues to develop its academic programs in response to technological change and the evolving demands of future professions.
