On 26 September, NU welcomed a delegation led by Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, Minister of Higher Education of Malaysia, which is currently on a working visit to Kazakhstan. Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, and NU leadership took part in the meeting.
The parties discussed cooperation between Kazakhstan and Malaysia in education and research, with particular attention to developing partnerships between universities in the two countries, joint research, and student mobility.
Minister Sayasat Nurbek, noted that Malaysia remains a popular study destination for Kazakhstani students. At the same time, Kazakhstan is developing as a regional education hub by attracting leading international universities and opening their branches in the country. The Minister invited Malaysian universities to take a more active part in this process, including through joint educational and research projects.
Dr. Zambry Abdul Kadir, in turn, confirmed Malaysia’s interest in strengthening ties with Kazakhstan. He highlighted student mobility, joint research, digital and technology education, and human capital development as promising areas for cooperation.
NU Provost Professor Rehan Sadiq emphasized the University’s interest in further developing research ties with leading research universities in Malaysia. According to him, NU sees potential for launching joint research projects, exchanging knowledge and expertise, and creating new opportunities for collaboration between researchers from the two countries.
NU Vice President Kadisha Dairova highlighted the University’s existing partnerships with Universiti Malaya and Universiti Teknologi PETRONAS (UTP), which include student exchange. Six UTP students are studying at NU during the current fall semester. NU and Universiti Malaya also cooperate through the Asian Universities Alliance (AUA), of which NU is a founding member. According to K.Dairova, the University plans to expand bilateral programs and create new opportunities for students and faculty together with its Malaysian partners.
