The NU Library cordially invites you to a book presentation of Central Asian Textiles, featuring its co-authors Snezhanna Atanova, Assistant Professor at Nazarbayev University’s School of Sciences and Humanities and Department of Sociology and Anthropology, and Tereza Hejzlarová, scholar at Palacký University in Olomouc. 

About the book: The book explores the rich textile traditions of Central Asia, showcasing elaborate costumes, embroidered suzanis, ikat textiles, equestrian items, and exquisite furnishings created for both settled and nomadic lifestyles. Featuring remarkable works from the Neville Kingston Collection, including many previously unpublished pieces, the book offers a vivid glimpse into the cultural heritage and everyday life of communities along the historic Silk Road.

About the author:
Snezhanna Atanova is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Sociology and Anthropology at Nazarbayev University. Her research focuses on Central Asian material culture, nationalism, and the cultural history of the region, with particular expertise in textiles and ethnographic collections. 

At NU, she has also led research projects on Central Asian ethnographic collections in European museums and Central Asian textiles during the Soviet period.
