Nazarbayev University and the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan are exploring joint educational programs in demography, including courses on demographic analysis and forecasting.
The initiative was discussed at a meeting between NU President Professor Waqar Ahmad and Adil Kusmanov, Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The meeting was also attended by Samantha Smidt, NU Vice Provost for Academic Affairs; Colin Knox, Professor at the NU School of Sciences and Humanities; Ramil Tokhtiyev, Director of the Agency’s Department of Social Sphere; and Ayaulym Sagynbayeva, Head of the Agency’s Center for Analysis and Forecasting of Demographic Processes.
The participants discussed opportunities to strengthen training in demography, including the development of courses at NU focused on demographic analysis and forecasting. Potential formats included public lectures, short-term programs, and specialized classes for students and professionals.
The parties also discussed involving the Agency’s Center for Analysis and Forecasting of Demographic Processes in developing course materials and practical case studies, drawing on the Center’s expertise and analytical research.
Following the meeting, NU and the Agency agreed to continue working together on the proposed initiatives, including their content, delivery formats, target audiences, and organizational arrangements.
The collaboration is expected to bring together NU’s academic expertise and the Agency’s applied experience in analyzing demographic trends and processes.
