On July 21, a Pakistani delegation led by Ms. Wajiha Qamar, Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, visited Nazarbayev University (NU) to discuss opportunities for expanding cooperation in higher education, research, and academic mobility.
Welcoming the delegation, NU Provost Rehan Sadiq highlighted the University’s continued efforts to strengthen international partnerships and attract more international students. He noted that Pakistani nationals currently represent the second-largest international student community at NU. At present, 55 students from Pakistan are enrolled in the University’s bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs.
NU Vice President Assel Uvaliyeva presented the University’s academic opportunities for international students. She noted that this year NU introduced partial scholarships for international students for the first time.
“This year, we launched partial scholarships for international students for the first time. We are open to discussing various co-funding models, with scholarships covering 15%, 20%, 30%, or up to 50% of tuition costs,” said Assel Uvaliyeva.
At the conclusion of the meeting, Minister Wajiha Qamar proposed establishing a joint working group comprising representatives from both sides. The group will coordinate the development of cooperation in higher education, academic mobility, and joint research initiatives.
