The Yale School of Public Health is partnering with NU School of Medicine on an advanced research training program that will support promising scientists and clinicians interested in phylogeny of viruses and molecular epidemiology. The new program, called MoVE-Kaz for Molecular Virology/Epidemiology Training in Kazakhstan, is funded by a grant from the Fogarty International Center of the U.
Established in 1558, Friedrich Schiller University Jena is one of the oldest German universities boasting a prestigious alumni list that includes renowned figures such as Karl Marx, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, Friedrich Schiller and Alexander von Humboldt. Today the university has about 18,000 full-time students, with 15% of international students from 120 different nations.
Under the framework of the newly established Agreement, both institutions agreed to provide student exchange and research internship opportunities in the fields of engineering and mining. The first step in this promising collaboration between NU and the UL was taken in July 2023 when two universities signed a Memorandum of Understanding.
This year, 165 universities were ranked for the first time and Asia now outnumbers Europe in terms of participation. According to experts, NU’s entry into the rankings, with such a strong placement at only 13 years old, is an exceptional achievement.
On December 2, in an impactful development at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) NU and Khalifa University signed a momentous Joint Statement on Cooperation. This Statement underscores both institutions’ shared commitment to addressing the pressing global challenge of climate change and stipulates a signing subsequent cooperation agreement.

As part of the signed MoU, NU and Sabanci University agreed to cooperate in student and staff exchanges, joint research activities and exchange of publications, reports and other academic materials. It is expected that the established collaboration will not only enrich the academic experiences of students and faculty, but also contribute to the broader relationship between Kazakhstan and Turkiye.

The event coincided with the annual meetings of the World Bank and the IMF and centers around the theme “Improving Governance to Address Climate Change, Inequality, and Global Fragmentation.
