On October 2-3, 2018 in Astana, an intellectual competition “Student Energy Challenge” took place within the framework of the KazEnergy Youth Conference. The team of NU students «NU SynGas» took the 2nd place with the project: “Solid Waste Gasification”.

On October 11-12, 2018, the NU Office of the Registrar will organize the first conference on the improvement of the quality of the service provided; and the optimization and automation of the business processes of the Registrar’s Office. Conference participants will include more than 70 universities of Kazakhstan, representatives of software companies (Ellucian, Plagiat.

On September 29, 2018, a major community outreach event of this autumn – the cybersport tournament Astana Atrium Games and Open House Day took place at NU. The event was supported by Astana city akimat.

Test center at Nazarbaev University was established in 2017. Now everyone can take such international standardized tests as SAT, TOEFL, GRE, GMAT, TOEFL iTP, TOEFL iBT, TOEIC as well as mock tests.

On September 20, the National Final of the Climate Launchpad Competition will be held at NU. Nine national teams who made it to the final will present their “green” business ideas promoting a low-carbon future.

On August 12, 2018, 14 top 3rd year students of the School of Humanities and Social Sciences returned from an eight-week Visiting International Student Program (VISP) at the University of Wisconsin-Madison, USA fully funded by NU. During the VISP program, students took 2-3 courses out of a wide range of courses and earned between 6 to 9 Carnegie credits.

In 2018 the project “Construction of Sub-Phase 2 Phase II construction of the Scientific and Educational Complex “NU” became the finalist of “IPMA Global Project Excellence Awards 2018” competition in the category “Mega-Sized Projects”. At the second judges meeting in July 2018 international Judges, representing previous award winners, different sectors and industries as well as the academic world decided on the finalists in the IPMA Global Project Excellence Award competition and selected the winners of the gold, silver and bronze prizes in three categories: medium, big and mega-sized projects.

On June 19, 2018, a ceremonial handover of the equipment from Alageum Electric to the joint Laboratory of Power System and High Voltage was held at NU. The laboratory, as an educational platform, will be used to provide practical classes for Electrical and Engineering Department students, School of Engineering.

This Spring NU selected best students from School of Engineering and School and Science and Technologies to study in the summer semester at the University at Buffalo, New York State, United States of America. As a result, top 38 undergraduate students, 17 from School of Engineering and 21 Science and Technologies were granted with customized program at the University at Buffalo.
