Yevgeniya Kim, the Director of NU’s Career and Advising Center, has been working there since its inception in 2012. The main tasks of the Center are to work together with students on their career development and to advise students and graduates on issues related to their professional growth.

Our interviewee is Aizhamal Zhazykpaeva, acting director of the Admissions Department of NU, who has been admitting students to the University for 5 years. Aizhamal, tell us about the peculiarities of NU admissions office?The main feature I would highlight is openness and accessibility in our work.

On April 26, 2019, a new research complex based on the INURA (Innovative NU’s Research Accelerator) pulse high-current ion accelerator launched at NU. The construction of the ion accelerator is the result of trilateral cooperation between NU (Kazakhstan), Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory (USA) and National Research Tomsk Polytechnic University (Russia).

NU students had the opportunity to practice how to give a good interview when applying for a job. Simulated interviews were held on campus between April 1 and 5, where students practiced interviewing with potential employers and were then given personal feedback and recommendations on how they did and ways they might improve.

According to WHO data, every day about 4 500 people die from tuberculosis (TB) and 30 000 become sick with TB. Over the last decade, the medical community has faced difficulties in fighting tuberculosis due to the emergence of strains that are either extensively resistant to drugs or multidrug resistant.

NU marked the importance of caring about the environment during “NU Green Week” which was held at on campus from April 1 to 7. The event was organized by the student community NU Green Society with the support of the Embassy of Switzerland in Kazakhstan and the office of Green Campus.

NU researchers have discovered new genetic factors associated with heart failure and sudden cardiac death. Studying these genetic markers will help scientists to better understand heart disease, which could be used in the future to screen individuals for potential risks related to developing heart conditions.

On March 29, NU held its annual celebration of Nauryz for guests, students, and university staff. Each year the university seeks to mark the holiday in new ways, and for the very first time ever the event featured a fair of NU’s international students, as well as a festival of cultures from different countries which occurred with the support of embassies and foreign missions in Kazakhstan.
