Today, the Japanese government announced that Chairman of the Board of the Corporate Fund “University Medical Center” and General Director of National Laboratory Astana, NU Professor Zhaxybay Zhumadilov will be awarded the highest state award of Japan - Order of the Rising Sun, Gold Rays with Neck Ribbon - for his outstanding achievements as a scientist and contribution in the field of radiation exposure research and strengthening the health of affected people. It should be noted that the Emperor of Japan traditionally honors prominent statesmen, public figures and scientists with this award.

The online final of Science Stars, a national science communication competition for school and college students in Kazakhstan, was held on April 18, 2020. It was organised by the British Council, OYLA Magazine, NU and the Science Fund, in partnership with Chevron Kazakhstan, to popularize science among youth.

From March 30, companies moved to remote work and ceased their traditional (usually in person) mode of operation, and from April 6, all educational institutions shifted to distance learning.

Signaling the threat to public health posed by COVID-19, and following the first casualties recorded in the country, the Government has further stepped up measures designed to limit the spread of the virus by further restricting physical interaction. Delaying and flattening the peak of COVID-19’s spread gives Kazakhstan’s health system a fighting chance to manage the oncoming wave of infection.
