The 2019 pandemic has made a difference in educational environments around the world – universities everywhere are introducing online courses and distance learning. In the spring semester, NU switched to distance learning using Moodle’s BigBlueButton, Zoom, Qualtrics, PowerPoint, electronic journals, e-books, textbooks, and other resources of the Innovation Training Center.

NU handed out 1875 personal protective equipment (PPE) kits to the medical workers of Nur-Sultan and Karaganda region. Sponsorship was provided by NU’s “Social Development Fund” subsidiary.

Scientists from the National Laboratory Astana (NLA) are conducting large-scale studies of the Kazakhstani population’s entire genome using various sequencing technologies and bioinformatics analysis based on artificial intelligence (AI). “The project will create a genome reference database of Kazakhstanis by sequencing the whole genomes of 500 individuals.

NU graduates advanced to the semifinals of the European Universities Debating Championship (EUDС). At the start of the year, an article entitled “Abai and Kazakhstan in the XXI century”, penned by the President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev, was published in the “Egemen Kazakhstan” newspaper. The article stated that both Kazakhstan and UNESCO have made plans to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the Kazakh poet, writer, and philosopher Abai.
