Students of NU were awarded Tauelsizdik Urpaqtary grants at the President’s residence Akorda. Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev has congratulated and handed prizes to the winners at the ceremony.

The NU team became the winner of the International Olympiad in Electrochemical Materials Science, which was organized within the framework of the ХІ International Birimzhanov Congress, on chemistry and chemical technology. It was conducted by the Laboratory of Technologies of Electrochemical Production at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University on November 18th, 2021.

iGEM Kazakhstan team that consists of NU students became a winner of the gold medal in the International Genetically Engineered Machine (iGEM) competition – an annual worldwide synthetic biology event for undergraduates, graduates, and high school students. iGEM competition is a truly international event with teams coming from all over the world.

Our new guest of ‘Galym-Galam’ rubric is Ellina Mun, a PostDoctoral scholar at NU School of Science and Humanities (NU SSH). Ellina Mun has graduated from the world’s leading universities in the United Kingdom and the USA.

Bolat Sultankulov, PhD graduate of NU, is a cell biologist, a graduate of the University of Nottingham has been creating technological bio-startups for 10 years, and is a co-founder of the Founder Institute business incubator. Since March 2020, he has been working on a test system to quickly and inexpensively diagnose coronavirus in 15 minutes.

NU graduate Camila Rollan is a PhD student at Cambridge University. Having founded an inclusive center for children and adolescents in the capital, she decided to get a wider education and go to the UK.

A book ‘Curriculum Design: Local Responses to Global Challenges of Higher Education’ is a joint project of the Institutional Effectiveness unit of the Office of the Provost and the Graduate School of Education, co-authored by Aida Sagintayeva, Aizhan Mussina, Aliya Suleimenova, Ruslan Karatabanov, Kairat Kurakbayev and Duncan Priestley. The authors initiated a discussion about the current role of higher education and provided practical guidance and recommendations for improving the key aspects of higher education, based on the experience of NU.

The lessons of the pandemic have demonstrated the importance of such discipline as global health. Understanding the challenges facing specialists in this field today and realizing the importance of their professional training, the NU School of Medicine has developed a doctoral program in the field of global health, the first of its kind in Central Asia.
