On January 27, 2023, NU President Shigeo Katsu, also a chair of the Development Solutions Network in Kazakhstan (SDSN Kazakhstan), officially inaugurated the Karaganda Buketov University as a member of this National Network. Last year, under the umbrella of the global SDSN, which works closely with United Nations agencies, multilateral financing institutions, the private sector, and civil society,The Kazakh chapter was approved as a National Network hosted by NU.

Sayasat Nurbek, Minister of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan, held a briefing with the diplomatic corps at NU, where he outlined the state’s vision and strategies for international cooperation in higher education and science. Foreign diplomats from over 50 countries and international organizations attended the meeting in person, and Kazakh ambassadors working abroad could attend the meeting online.

The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is the world’s largest technical professional organisation, which is focused on advancing technology. IEEE and its members provide highly cited publications, conferences, and professional and educational activities, which boost global science and technology.

At the 27th UN Climate Change Conference, held this November in Egypt, the efforts to limit global temperature rise to 1. 5 degrees Celsius by the end of the century were recognized as insufficient.

The executive management of NU (NU) held a press conference Saturday, Dec 3, where President Shigeo Katsu and Vice President for Student Affairs and International Cooperation Kadisha Dairova met with media representatives to share the latest news and updates related to NU and answered journalists’ questions. NU President Shigeo Katsu outlined the areas where the university made considerable leaps.

The Seminar took place at NU with the International Association of School Counseling support on November 18, 2022. It was focused on the improvement of the quality of career counseling work with schoolchildren and a discussion of current trends and problems that exist in this area.

NU, the University of Lorraine and three French companies – Total Energies, Alstom, and Air Liquide – signed a trilateral Official Joint Statement on November 29, 2022, at a business forum in Paris where the Heads of state of Kazakhstan and France participated. Shigeo Katsu, President of NU, Vassilios Turassis, Vice Provost for Industry Relations, Dean of the School of Engineering and Digital Science, and Aliya Kaimoldinova, Head of the Office of Global Relation took part in the official signing ceremony.

The United Nations Development Program in Kazakhstan, together with the NU School of Sciences and Humanities, held a seminar for students on preventing discrimination and harassment in the universities of Kazakhstan on 18 November. During the seminar, the UNDP and UN Women experts presented key policies and tools for creating a safe environment in higher education institutions.

The NU Kazakh Stage student club presented a play based on Azilkhan Nurshaikov’s novel “Mahabbat, qyzyq mol jyldar” (“Years of Joy and Love”) at NU with the support of the NU Cultural Center “Rukhani Zhangyru”. The Kazakh-language performance drew a full house on November 15, 2022.
