The comprehensive program “Academic Leadership Institute: Deans’ School,” developed by the NU Graduate School of Education (GSE), has been launched to enhance the skills and knowledge of faculty leaders at Kazakhstani higher education institutions. The program aims to achieve high-quality standards and effective management in the dynamic environment of higher education.
The signing, which took place on the second day of the congress, marks a significant step in enhancing educational and cultural connections between the two organizations. The formal signing ceremony was attended by FICAC President Nikolaos Margaropoulos, Acting President of NU Ilesanmi Adesida, and Chairman of the Board of the “Society of Honorary Consuls” Denis Van den Weghe.
NU hosted a briefing with the participation of Professor Atakan Varol, Founder and Head of the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI), Yerbol Absalyamov, Deputy Director for Operations, and Madina Abdrakhmanova, Deputy Director for External Relations. The speakers elaborated on developing a large language model of the Kazakh language—KazLLM.
The visit to Astana took place within the framework of the agreement reached during the official visit of the leadership of the Kazakhstani university to the leading universities and schools of Uzbekistan in April this year. Their accommodation on campus allowed them to fully immerse themselves in university life, where, despite the vacation period, research work continues and prestigious international Olympiads are held, particularly the IBO-2024 – a biology competition among schoolchildren from 81 countries.

On April 30-May 2, an NU delegation visited leading universities and schools in Uzbekistan to strengthen ties and build bridges of cooperation between the two countries. Over the three days, the delegation met with representatives of the Kazakh Embassy in Uzbekistan, the Ministry of Higher Education and Innovation of Uzbekistan, and the management of educational institutions, including the National University of Uzbekistan, University of World Economy and Diplomacy, Tashkent Medical Academy, New Uzbekistan University, OXUS University, and others.
During the course «Robots for Rehabilitation» by Associate Professor Prashant Jamwal, students from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, as well as the School of Medicine, collaborated to create functional prototypes of robots that can be used for rehabilitation purposes in hospitals. Representatives from the National Agency for Development of Innovations «QazInnovations», «Jas Ventures» LLP, and the National Center for Children’s Rehabilitation were invited to present the final projects.
One of the significant achievements in this area was the signing of a partnership agreement in 2022 between NU and Stanford University as part of the StartX acceleration program, which expanded opportunities for startups in Kazakhstan and Central Asia. “The StarX partnership with NU is helping us find startups from the region, come to the Silicon valley and find a home here.
