On March 6, 2023, the Country Director of the British Council – Mr Eric Lawrie, visited NU in the framework of a guest lecture series held for the university community: students, faculty and staff. In his lecture, Mr Lawrie shared his life journey story, from starting a career as a mapmaker to becoming a country director in the British Council.
The Board of Trustees of NU, headed by Kazakh Prime Minister Alikhan Smailov, considered the results of the University’s activities for the past year and plans for the coming period on March 4, 2023. The National Bank Chairman Galymzhan Pirmatov, Deputy Prime Minister – Minister of Finance Yerulan Zhamaubayev, First Deputy Head of the Presidential Administration Timur Suleimenov, heads of several other government agencies, NU President Shigeo Katsu and other members of the Board of Trustees participated in the meeting.
About 70 employees representing the middle management of Abay Kazakh National Pedagogical University, including department directors, deans, and department chairs, will be trained for two months on the topics: Team and human resource management, Funding and management of research projects and fundraising, Regulation of academic processes, Ensuring and improving the quality of teaching and learning, Writing a research plan/application for grant funding, The architecture of educational programs and others. Building team members’ knowledge and skills in these areas will be a big step toward achieving academic excellence at Abai Kazakh National Pedagogical University.
Over 32 University teams worldwide competed for the trophy, and being one of them was an honor for NU students. They have demonstrated a tremendous drive for success as future Petroleum Engineers.
Scientists from the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI), founded by NU School of Engineering and Digital Sciences Professor Hussein Atakan Varol, presented their projects to international students and explained what data they use and from what sources. The Institute researches human/machine interaction and collaboration, augmented/virtual reality, industrial internet of things, power and energy management, bioinformatics, medical imaging, human augmentation, neural interfaces, AI-integrated wearables for diagnostics, natural language processing, smart city, sensor networks, edge computing, and cybersecurity.
On October 7, professors and students of the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, led by Chair Essam Shehab, participated in the “World Space Week: Space Technology and Patents” meeting. The National Institute of Intellectual Property (QazPatent) organized the event as part of World Space Week.

Information sessions were held on the House of Friendship building’s two floors. NU faculty and staff explained to the Almaty residents about the admissions and education procedures at the University within the School’s exhibition.
