The Doctoral Institute is organizing the DI Professional Development Series for students and faculty
members on the topic «Beyond the Monograph: Thesis by Publication as an Alternative Doctoral Pathway
at Nazarbayev University».
Professor Shazim Ali Memon, Associate Provost of the Doctoral Institute at NU, will lead a session exploring
Thesis by Publication (TbP) as an alternative to the traditional doctoral monograph.
The session will introduce the proposed NU Thesis by publication pathway and international practices,
explaining how published research articles can be integrated into a thesis that demonstrates an original
contribution to knowledge. Key topics will include publication and authorship requirements, research
integrity, responsible AI use, copyright, and thesis structure.
