On October 1, Nazarbayev University hosted the opening of the Blockchain & Fintech Lab, established in strategic partnership with Jasaim Blockchain and Astana Business Campus, with the support of the NU Impact Foundation.
One of the key highlights of the event was the presentation of the national blockchain platform concept — KazSmartChain, designed to serve as the foundation for scalable and secure digital solutions in the country.
The development of the digital economy and the adoption of new technologies remain strategic priorities for Kazakhstan. Blockchain- and Web 3.0-based solutions are gradually being introduced in finance, logistics, public administration, and educational initiatives. The establishment of the Lab will bring together research teams, the business community, and government organizations to jointly develop and test applied projects.
A particular focus is placed on KazSmartChain — an enterprise-grade blockchain platform tailored to the real needs of government and business. It will support scalable projects across various sectors of the economy, ensuring high levels of security and reliability. This marks an important step toward positioning Kazakhstan as a digital technology hub in Central Asia.
The opening program featured a performance by an orchestra, welcome remarks from leadership and partners, a public presentation of the KazSmartChain White Paper, a demo of the test environment and prototype, the signing of strategic memorandums, and a networking session.
The launch of the Blockchain & Fintech Lab at NU opens new opportunities for the application of blockchain technologies in practical projects today and represents a significant milestone in the development of Kazakhstan’s digital economy.
