These solutions might help the capital city to mitigate the risk of flooding and citizens’ needs in drinking water. The joint three-year German-Kazakhstani TERESA project funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) ended recently.

More than 150 scientists from various countries, including Japan, Germany, China, South Korea, Russia, the UK, Taiwan, and Kazakhstan, are expected to attend. Nurzhan Umirov, a leading researcher at the Energy Storage Systems Laboratory and head of LLP “Battery Institute,” sat with a Kazinfrom reporter to discuss the conference.

NU hosted a briefing with the participation of Professor Atakan Varol, Founder and Head of the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI), Yerbol Absalyamov, Deputy Director for Operations, and Madina Abdrakhmanova, Deputy Director for External Relations. The speakers elaborated on developing a large language model of the Kazakh language—KazLLM.

On July 9th, practical exams for the 35th International Biology Olympiad began at NU, with 305 students from 81 countries participating. The practical exams cover four rounds: biochemistry, molecular biology, bioinformatics, and animal anatomy and physiology.

The National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (NAS) announced the completion of the competition for the election of academicians. Among those selected is an associate professor at SSH NU.

“Last year, NU entered the top 30% of research-intensive universities worldwide according to the prestigious Times Higher Education ranking. This year, we entered the top 11% of universities in Asia and almost got into the top 100 young universities globally, all within just 14 years of operation.

During his working visit to Almaty, President Tokayev inspected the renovated National Academy of Sciences “Gylym Ordasy” building and held a large meeting with the scientific community. He emphasized the importance of science and education for the nation’s prosperity and acknowledged the increasing investment and growth in these sectors.

The project is a collaboration with Roche Diagnostics, a global leader in pharmaceuticals and diagnostics, and a key partner in the development of Kazakhstan’s pharmaceutical industry and healthcare system, supported by the Ministry of Healthcare of the Republic of Kazakhstan and “SK-Pharmacy” LLP. The primary goal of the training center is to enhance the skills of local specialists.

The Eurasian Centre for Accreditation and Quality Assurance in Higher Education and Health Care (ECAQA) is a member of the European Association for Quality Assurance in Higher Education and has been recognized by the World Federation for Medical Education. The five-year accreditation confirmed that the Doctor of Medicine program of the NU School of Medicine meets rigorous standards of quality and excellence in medical education.
