Established in 1558, Friedrich Schiller University Jena is one of the oldest German universities boasting a prestigious alumni list that includes renowned figures such as Karl Marx, Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel, Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz, Friedrich Schiller and Alexander von Humboldt. Today the university has about 18,000 full-time students, with 15% of international students from 120 different nations.

On December 19, a ceremonial presentation of the first Kazakh-English and English-Kazakh Oxford Qazaq Dictionary, developed by the International Society “Kazak tili” on behalf of the President of Kazakhstan Kasym-Jomart Tokayev, took place at NU. The event was graced by the presence of Acting President of NU (NU) Ilesanmi Adesida, Kazakh Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek, Parliament deputy Isa Kazybek Zharylkasynuly, British Ambassador to Kazakhstan Kathy Leach and Rauan Kenzhekhanuly, President of the International Society “Kazak tili”.
Kazakh Minister of Science and Higher Education Sayasat Nurbek and representatives from other Kazakh universities took part in the round table, where they discussed the development of innovation ecosystems in local universities. Sayasat Nurbek noted that the ministry plans to support university science by establishing science-intensive places, similar to special economic zones.

On December 2, in an impactful development at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) NU and Khalifa University signed a momentous Joint Statement on Cooperation. This Statement underscores both institutions’ shared commitment to addressing the pressing global challenge of climate change and stipulates a signing subsequent cooperation agreement.
NU hosted on Dec. 1-2 the final module of the Executive University Leadership Program – a professional development program for heads of public universities in Kazakhstan, prepared by NU Graduate School of Education (NU GSE) on the initiative of the Ministry of Higher Education and Science.
