The opening ceremony marked the establishment of a representative office aimed at expanding the academic opportunities offered by the university. One of the key objectives of this expansion is to introduce new training programs tailored for executives, effective managers, and businessmen.
NU Regional Liaison Office will provide advanced training programs from the NU Graduate School of Business, as well as offer various trainings and master classes conducted by exceptional instructors in different fields. The primary focus is to deliver continuous and lifelong education to the residents of Almaty and the southern regions of Kazakhstan, thereby enriching their professional development.
The academic expansion in the Almaty campus encompasses extensive and ambitious plans. NU will introduce short-term advanced training programs akin to MBA and EMBA courses. These trainings will be conducted in English with simultaneous translation into Kazakh and Russian. What makes this program distinctive in Kazakhstan is its strategic collaboration with Duke University’s Fuqua School of Business, a leading business school in the United States.
In May, the first pilot training on Negotiations attracted participants from the banking and financial sector in Almaty. This initial endeavor reflects the university’s aspirations to expand its presence and create a platform for engaging leaders and members of the business community, showcasing the academic opportunities available at NU.
“It has long been a dream of ours to expand our presence also in Almaty because we all know Almaty is a developing center of business. Here we have all the professionals in various industries. The Graduate School of Business has already been conducting a few workshops here. This is just the beginning, we have big plans and tasks. We hope to attract a large number of leaders, representatives of the business community and present our academic opportunities to them,” NU President Shigeo Katsu explained.
Looking ahead, NU has ambitious plans for the next five years in Almaty, including the establishment of an artificial intelligence center and a technology park.
The Regional Liaison Office of NU in Almaty has been operational since 2010, primarily providing information to prospective applicants. Additionally, since the summer of 2019, the NUTTellA-TAO telescope of NU has been successfully installed at the Assy-Turgen observatory in the Almaty region. Utilizing this powerful telescope, scientists from the Energetic Cosmos Laboratory of NU study cosmic gamma-ray bursts, enabling them to measure the spectrum of optical radiation emitted during major space explosions. The telescope was constructed by a development team led by Professor Bruce Grossan, head of the Experimental Group at the Energy Space Laboratory, who is part of the team led by Nobel laureate Professor George Smoot, the head of NU’s Energy Space Laboratory.
