Kazakhstani public figure and blogger Galym Baytuk visited Nazarbayev University, where he familiarized himself with the university’s ongoing research projects and scientific infrastructure.
Galym Baytuk has many years of experience in education and public administration. Over the years, he has held leadership positions at Kozybayev University and Ualikhanov University.
“Today I had the opportunity to take a closer look at the university’s infrastructure, and I was greatly impressed. An ecosystem has been created here that has no analogues not only in Central Asia — I believe, even globally. Students have every opportunity to gain knowledge and engage in research,” Baytuk shared.
During his visit, he toured several research laboratories and learned about the directions of the studies being conducted. In an interview with the university’s press service, he highlighted the high level of development of the university’s scientific ecosystem.
“The university operates hundreds of laboratories across various fields. Importantly, they are actively used for cutting-edge research. In particular, I had the chance to see the laboratory that developed Kazakhstan’s first microchip. I was also impressed by the development of high-end lithium-ion batteries. This means that as a country, we can now sell not raw materials but high-value products. This is strategically important for our nation,” he emphasized.
At the same time, Baytuk noted the insufficient level of business involvement in supporting science. In his view, expanding collaboration between the scientific community and the private sector, including research funding, is a key condition for further developing the country’s scientific potential.
He also praised the university students’ level of preparation, noting their talent and eagerness to learn. “These are truly some of the strongest and most motivated students I have ever met,” he remarked.
