The research and education network, led by Europa University Viadrina, unites 18 higher education institutions worldwide.

NU has joined a research consortium named “ValEUs” which aim is to better understand the foreign policy of the European Union and the EU’s future role in global governance.

ValEUs, the Research and Education Network on Contestations to EU Foreign Policy, led by the Europa University Viadrina, brings together 18 higher education institutions in 17 countries across five continents. The “ValEUs” consortium will not only inquire into the various contestations of European values but also discuss potential and successful counterstrategies and develop an alternative policy agenda.

Consortium received a Jean Monnet Network grant for 1.2 million euros from the highly competitive Erasmus+ Program of the European Commission. According to Jean-François Caron, Associate Professor in the Department of Political Science and International Relations and NU’s coordinator of the project, this grant will expand until 2027 and allow NU to solidify its role as a leading research university.

“As a testimony of its reputation, NU has been chosen to host the first annual conference of the consortium this upcoming September. Furthermore, this project will also provide our faculty and students with an opportunity to develop collaborative research with dozens of scholars from around the globe over the next 3 years and beyond, to participate in symposiums, to co-author research papers as well as allowing Ph.D students the possibility to pursue research at institutions partnering in the consortium”, said Jean-François Caron.
