The delegation met with CEMRR’s leadership team to explore opportunities for collaboration and funding, a step expected to foster significant initiatives for both CEMRR and the university.

A high-profile delegation from the World Bank, composed of senior private sector experts representing the European Union and Central Asia, visited NU’s Center of Excellence in Medical Robotics and Research (CEMRR) on June 11, 2025.

Assistant Professor Aibek Niyetkaliyev presented CEMRR’s strategic priorities, from innovations in surgical robotics and rehabilitation technologies to its growing emphasis on artificial intelligence in medicine. Associate Professor Prashant Jamwal outlined CEMRR’s extensive international partnerships, including those with Tsinghua University, Cardiff University, the University of Leeds, IIT Bombay, Columbia University, and the University of New South Wales. He also updated the delegation on the ongoing joint initiatives.

World Bank representatives recognized CEMRR’s ability to combine deep domain expertise with advanced technologies to address health care’s most pressing problems, primarily through collaborations with Kazakhstan’s Oncology Center and the Center of Traumatology and Orthopaedics. During the visit, the delegation shared details of a new funding opportunity for Artificial Intelligence in Medicine and invited CEMRR to participate in Digital Bridge 2025 and the Ministry of Digital Development’s AI Hub — initiatives designed to foster further collaboration and innovation.
