The education system in Finland has been recognized as one of the best in the world for many years. In her lecture on January 17th 2023, Ms Mäkeläinen-Buhanist spoke about the history of the education system’s development in Finland and its features today. In the 2000s, the Finnish education system began to receive worldwide attention due to the high international rankings in this area. In the latest PISA rankings, Finland stands out for its combination of excellent academic results and high student satisfaction. Well-being is a crucial factor in Finnish education.

Ms Soili Mäkeläinen-Buhanist has a master’s degree in economics and education in international relations. She is fluent in seven languages. Before being appointed the Ambassador of the Republic of Finland, she held the position of Senior Advisor of the Department of External Economic Affairs at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
