NU and SWUFE Discussed Shared Academic Priorities

Nazarbayev University (NU) welcomed a high-level delegation from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE), led by Mr. Zhao Jianjun, Chairman of the University Council.

The delegation also included Professor Han Li, Dean of the School of Business Administration; Professor Wang Xin, Executive Dean of the School of International Business; Ms. Dong Yan, Executive Vice Dean of the Research Institute of Economics and Management; and Dr. Wang Yeting, Director of the Office of International Exchange and Cooperation. The visit served as a platform to explore shared academic priorities and strengthen a growing institutional partnership between our two institutions.

In a meeting with NU President Professor Waqar Ahmad, both sides reflected on the progress of collaborative initiatives and reaffirmed their commitment to advancing joint academic goals.

SWUFE, located in Chengdu, China, is recognized as one of the country’s leading universities in the fields of economics, finance, and management. Known for its robust research output and contributions to financial policy and applied economics, SWUFE ranks among the top 300 global institutions in its disciplines. Nationally, it is ranked 6th in Applied Economics, 12th in Management, and 13th in Theoretical Economics by China’s Ministry of Education, and has partnerships with over 200 universities worldwide.

The two institutions highlighted their ongoing cooperation, which includes student exchange, joint research projects, and faculty engagement. The NU Graduate School of Business (GSB) has played a pivotal role in facilitating this partnership. NUGSB and SWUFE hosted two research symposiums in the last 2 years on the Belt and Road Initiative. While SWUFE hosted two NUGSB students at their recent summer school, NU will host two SWUFE students for an exchange semester in Fall 2025. Plans are underway to develop joint undergraduate and graduate programs in the near future.

The visit underscored both universities’ commitment to expanding academic collaboration and marks a significant step in in building strong, sustainable international partnerships between high quality institutions.
