Nazarbayev University Graduate School of Public Policy invites the community to attend a research webinar titled “Memory Politics, EU Integration and Enlargement: Past Research and Future Perspectives” featuring Dr. Andrea Apollonio.
The webinar will explore the role of memory politics, political narratives, and symbolic legitimacy in shaping European integration and enlargement processes. Participants will gain insights into contemporary research on the politics of remembrance within European institutions and discuss future perspectives in this evolving academic field.
Dr. Andrea Apollonio’s research focuses on memory politics, political narratives, and symbolic legitimacy in the European Union and Japan. He has conducted research at several leading institutions, including the University of Turin, the University of Florence, the Université libre de Bruxelles, and Maastricht University. His recent article, “Intra-institutional memory activism: a sociological investigation of the European Parliament’s politics of remembrance,” was published in the Journal of Contemporary European Studies (2025). His PhD monograph, Politiche della memoria e narrazioni sulla storia nel Parlamento europeo: un’indagine sociologica, was awarded the Città di Firenze Prize 2025 and is scheduled for publication by Firenze University Press in 2026.
