NU and Khalifa University Sign a Joint Statement on Cooperation at COP28

Universities agreed to develop joint initiatives in student research and exchanges in STEMM disciplines.

On December 2, in an impactful development at the 28th Conference of Parties (COP28) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) NU and Khalifa University signed a momentous Joint Statement on Cooperation. This Statement underscores both institutions' shared commitment to addressing the pressing global challenge of climate change and stipulates a signing subsequent cooperation agreement. The agreement outlines various initiatives, notably establishing collaborative efforts for student research and exchange across academic disciplines like engineering, science, medicine, and health sciences. These efforts span green technologies, artificial intelligence, materials recycling, renewable energy, sustainable development, advanced energy storage and conversion materials, and beyond.

NU is the first partner for Khalifa University, the leading UAE STEMM institution, also a young university. This collaboration is the initial step in developing institutional academic connections between Kazakhstan and UAE. Both institutions share a commitment to academic and research excellence contributing to global sustainability and advancing cutting-edge research.

Khalifa University of Science and Technology, situated in Abu-Dhabi, stands as a pioneering institution committed to achieving net-zero emissions by 2050, aligning with the UAE Net Zero by 2050 initiative. Known for its strong emphasis on sustainability and innovation, Khalifa University offers a diverse range of programs. Khalifa University is ranked #251–300th in the World University Rankings 2024 by Times Higher Education. Academics are organized under three colleges – the College of Engineering, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the College of Medicine and Health Sciences. Khalifa University offers the following degree programs: 16 Bachelor’s degree programs, 18 Master’s degree programs, 6 PhD programs, and 1 Doctor of Medicine program.
