What Majors Attract Prospective Students From Almaty

More than 800 prospective students attended NU Day in Almaty, Nazarbayev University’s flagship open-house event designed to introduce high schoolers to the opportunities at Central Asia’s leading research university.

Throughout the day, visitors received up-to-date information about NU’s admissions process, academic programs, and pathways for talented applicants. According to the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2026, NU placed in the 401+ band globally, ranking first among universities in Central Asia and the Caucasus and fourth in the CIS region.

The program featured lectures and workshops led by NU faculty and international scholars. Students learned about merit-based scholarships and the standard admissions track, which offers additional routes for joining NU. Particular interest centered on the summer research programs offered by the Institute of Smart Systems and Artificial Intelligence (ISSAI NU), where students gain hands-on experience working on real research projects.

One of the most engaging sessions explored the story of Kazakhstan’s first technology unicorn, Higgsfield, whose team is composed largely of NU alumni. Prospective students heard how NU’s ecosystem supports innovation, entrepreneurship and the creation of globally competitive startups.

Guests also took part in interactive activities and quizzes, adding energy and engagement to the event.

NU Day in Almaty 2025 marked an important milestone for many students as they considered their academic futures and explored what it means to study at a world-class research university.
