Deputy of Prime Minister of RK Yerbol Orynbayev, Minister of Education and Science Bakytzhan Zhumagulov and President of NU Shigeo Katsu took part in the opening ceremony. “This year we are trying to reflect the dynamics and sequences of reforms in Kazakhstan’s higher education system at this conference. The Forum agenda this year addresses the topics of leadership, management and university responsibilities; quality control in education and research; and global trends in education. These topics are among the most important ones in the sphere of higher education. NU is privileged to develop as an autonomous institution with the support of many stakeholders, that is why we realize our big responsibility. For our university it is very important to share our experience”, President of NU Shigeo Katsu said opening the Forum. The Forum lasts two days, on June 12-13. Leaders and top managers in education, researchers, government officials and politicians from nearly 30 countries participate in the event. The Eurasian Higher Education Leaders Forum Agenda focuses on management issues in research universities. The Executive Director of the Office of Higher Education of Ireland Tom Boland, President Richard Miller of the Olin college – winner of five prestigious teaching awards, member of the Board of Trustees of the Babson and Olin colleges in the U.S., and Professor Steven P. Heyneman, who was responsible for education sector policies across almost 30 countries of the Europe and Central Asia region at the World Bank for many years, the author of research on quality of education and the development of strategies to maintain educational effectiveness will deliver keynote speeches at the Forum. The Forum will also feature a special session “Review of Kazakhstan’s education system”, which takes the form of a report-out by an international research group on educational reform in Kazakhstan. Well-known foreign and Kazakhstani scientists and experts in public policy, financing and management of secondary, vocational-technical, and higher education will discuss the issue of reforming the education system in the Republic of Kazakhstan. A professional seminar for librarians of Kazakhstani higher education institutions is also organized within the frame of the Forum. Last year, the Eurasian Higher Education Leaders Forum brought together over 400 participants from 28 countries. The 2012 Forum mostly debated management questions in higher educational organizations. The Forum is an annual international event organized by the NU.
