“The competition was strong, the opponents were very good, but together we were able to secure 6 gold, 4 silver and 3 bronze medals. We are a young team, but we strive for success. We also organize master classes with Olympic swimmers. For example, shortly before the league, Dmitry Balandin, an Olympic champion, three-time champion of the Asian Games, came to us,” the captain of the NU swimming team, Yenlik Ultarakova, shared her impressions of the competition.
The day also featured the kickboxing finals, one of the league’s secondary sports. A total of 135 students from 25 university and college teams participated in the kickboxing tournament, competing in the youth categories of 16-17 years old and 18-24 years old in the WAKO Full Contact category. In the overall medal standings the International Taraz Innovation Institute was in the lead, followed by the Pedagogical College of Astana International University, and the Karagandy Academy of the Kazakh Ministry of Internal Affairs.
From May 26 to May 31, NU is hosting the finals of the Student Sports League, with approximately 750 students from 52 universities across Kazakhstan competing. This year marks the first time the student sports league is being held as a unified tournament for all universities.
