On November 8–9, the national Energy Saving Cup tournament dedicated to energy efficiency and sustainable development took place in Astana.
The event was organized by the Ministry of Industry and Construction of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Institute for the Development of Electric Power and Energy Saving, and the NU Office of Sustainable Development.
The intellectual competition brought together 28 teams from leading universities of the capital. Among the 56 participants were representatives of L.N. Gumilyov Eurasian National University, Maqsut Narikbayev University, Saken Seifullin University, Astana IT University, and Nazarbayev University. High school and college students from Astana also took part in the tournament.
Following the qualifying rounds, eight of the strongest teams advanced to the semifinals, and NU’s Later team emerged as the overall winner. Meiirzhan Yerulan, a student of the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, and Sultan Satybaldy, a student of the School of Sciences and Humanities, showcased exceptional skills in argumentation, analytical thinking, and a deep understanding of current challenges in the field of energy conservation.
The theme of the tournament is particularly relevant for Kazakhstan, where efficient energy use and the adoption of green technologies are key components of sustainable development. The eco-debate format provided participants with an opportunity not only to discuss pressing real-world issues but also to propose practical solutions applicable in everyday life and professional practice.
