Over 32 University teams worldwide competed for the trophy, and being one of them was an honor for NU students. They have demonstrated a tremendous drive for success as future Petroleum Engineers.
The PetroBowl Championship took place during the 2022 Annual Technical Conference & Exhibition (ATCE) in Houston, Texas, USA, on October 3, 2022. PetroBowl Championship is SPE’s largest student competition where students from around the world participate in quick-fire quiz covering a wide range of topics relevant to the oil and gas industry, such as reservoir engineering, drilling, geology, geophysics, oil history, geopolitics, and many more. The best students displayed their expertise and knowledge to a global audience through this contest.
NU students made a little history in this International Petrobowl Competition because they are the first Caspian and Russian region representative who has gone so far and won 4th place.
Our SPE team is very diverse. All team members study at NU SMG in Petroleum Engineering starting from undergraduate to PhD candidates: Alinur Muratov, 3rd year Bachelor’s student, Mariam Shakeel, 1st year PhD student, Kamilya Arstanova,1st year Master’s student, Yuliya Ten,1st year Master’s student, Marzhan Karimova, 2nd year PhD student.
“We are all motivated to prepare a future team to compete this year in Regional Qualifier and International Petrobowl. NU students have already shown their level of education and knowledge at Regional Qualifiers. We have won Regional Qualifiers several times in the past few years, so the next step will be to get 1st place at the International Petrobowl. So we encourage our students to participate this year in Petrobowl” shared Marzhan Karimova, 2nd year PhD student in Petroleum Engineering.
NU SMG students have learned the most valuable thing from this contest: teamwork. Mariam Shakeel agrees with this: “If you work as a team, you can achieve any milestone, no matter how difficult it is”.
Petroleum Engineering has become a diverse field nowadays and is no longer related only to fossil fuels. The oil and gas industry is now transforming into an energy industry where renewables and green energy sources are growing attention. NU students learn all of this as part of their programs and demonstrate their knowledge in the international arena.
We are proud of our students and believe they will succeed more in the future!
