During the course «Robots for Rehabilitation» by Associate Professor Prashant Jamwal, students from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, as well as the School of Medicine, collaborated to create functional prototypes of robots that can be used for rehabilitation purposes in hospitals. Representatives from the National Agency for Development of Innovations «QazInnovations», «Jas Ventures» LLP, and the National Center for Children’s Rehabilitation were invited to present the final projects.
According to the professor, negotiations with the organizations mentioned above regarding financing student projects are underway.
«At the beginning of the semester, the students were given five projects. Students eventually came up with five functional prototypes of rehabilitation robots that could potentially be further developed and commercialized. We are talking to QazInnovations and Jas Ventures to support these projects further financially,» he commented.
During the presentation of their projects, final-year undergraduate students from the School of Engineering and Digital Sciences, as well as master’s students from the School of Medicine specializing in sports medicine and rehabilitation, highlighted the innovative methods they used and the entrepreneurial potential of the project as a whole. The main goal of this event is to attract various organizations to support startup projects and to present students with opportunities in the field of manufacturing medical devices in Kazakhstan.
It is worth noting that during this course, students studied robot mechanics, human biomechanics, and designing and manufacturing processes, among other subjects. Students also mastered the Solidworks and Fusion software programs for robot creation.
