It is expected that such breakfast discussions will have the increasing involvement of the NU Community in the transformation process and strengthen confidence in change. These talks will also be a tool to communicate impactful Transformation activities and its results, keep meaningful connections with NU community members and strengthen the sense of belonging to NU strategy, values, and principles.

It is worth noting that NU Transformation program started in 2019 after study visits of NU delegation to National University of Singapore (NUS) and Wisconsin-Madison (UWM). Having adopted the experience of these universities, the Transformation office commenced its transformation initiatives in HR, Finance, IT and Procurement areas.

The first Transformation Breakfast Talks was opened by NU President, Mr. Shigeo Katsu on Monday, May 30, 2022. The event launched by the Transformation Office of NU brought together NU Top Management, School Deans, and Working groups members of Phase 2. NU President Mr. Shigeo Katsu made a presentation, where he highlighted the key challenges of the current Institutional Transformation Program.

Over the past ten years, NU has become prominent among the higher education institutions of Kazakhstan as well as in Central Asia. Strictly following its scale of values, and principles NU has created its academic and research environment, and actively translates the experience to other universities.

“We educate, conduct research, and introduce innovations. We have also developed a medical complex. We are engaging with the government and other external stakeholders, and we also have been tasked to share our experience with the rest of the higher education sector. NU has developed into a much more complex and multifaceted system.” – remarked Mr. Shigeo Katsu.

NU intends to work closely with technology companies to create a reliable system for startup projects promotion. The right attitude to any ideas and developments has allowed us to create an environment that nurtures brave student entrepreneurs.

“Now, as you can tell, our students are not afraid to come up with their ideas, to put together companies and startups. And certainly, they are not afraid to fail. Overall we have around 170 startups. Many of them, certainly, will not survive, but the important thing is that they start to create a catch” – shared the NU President, Mr. Shigeo Katsu.

According to Mr. Shigeo Katsu’s thoughts, in the coming years, the focus of development will be aimed at NU placement among the World’s research universities: “We have to further step up efforts in our all mandates. We want to join the ranks of leading global universities, and receive accreditation of our various programs as well as international institutional accreditation” – concluded the President of NU, Mr. Shigeo Katsu.

The Transformation Breakfast Talk was followed by the interactive Q&A session where all participants had a chance to discuss topics of their interests. It is expected to have an external guest speaker for the next session to discuss transformation and change management from different perspectives.
